Happy Birthday to two special women in my life. MOM, your laugh, love, and the smell of cookies baking will never leave me. DIANA, who has a beautiful infectious smile has joined our family and we can’t wait to get to know her even better! Also, a Happy Anniversary to a pretty awesome couple—JASON & DANICA have added more joy to our family because of this reunion 5 years ago! A great day for some pretty wonderful people today! Love you ALL!!
Dale and I headed over the mountain to attend Grandparent's Day with Jorie. On our way over we noticed that the haze we've had in the air due to fires from Idaho and Oregon have contributed to making the air a lot hazier. We couldn't even see the Wellsville mountains as we drove out of the valley!
Morgan Elementary put on a fun Grandparent's Day for us. We met Gloria Dennis (Zandra's mom) in the gym at the school and found Jorie lined up along the wall just opposite of where we were sitting. The kids sang a song for us, and we played a game, and read books with Jorie. We even did a little dance with her. It was cute, and we were glad we could go.
I was able to spend a weekend with my Golden Girls by going to Layton and attending a "Time Out for Women" event that was held in the Davis County Conference Center. We stayed overnight and had fun visiting, eating, and learning. I ran into my daughter, Amie and some of her friends while we were waiting to go into the event too!! Fun times with some great women.
Dale decided to show his domestic side and picked our corn, husked it, cleaned it, cut it off the cob, cooked it, and bagged it for us pretty much all by himself. I just helped with the clean-up!! We're set for the winter on corn now! This guy puts his mind to something, and it gets done!! What a determination. He does love frozen corn.
Danica called wanting to do frozen corn and raspberry jam, so he jumped in and helped us get her corn done. Dale and Danica pretty much did the corn while I kept things moving and then we all helped with the jam. June was a good sport too. We were glad we could help fill their freezer. Thanks, Danica for the bouquet of flowers too. They brighten up the kitchen.
I ushered at the Eccles Theater for Music Theater Wests production of "Singing in the Rain" as well as for the Odyssey Dance Companys "Thriller" show. This was the Odyssey Dance Companys last season after 30 years. The owners are retiring, and their daughter doesn't want to take over the company. The show was a sell-out. I was also able to attend "Singing in the Rain" as a patron with my friend Kathy Bullen. We went to dinner at the new Zupa's place before the show.
Dale and I joined our friends Bruce and Lottie Anderson and went to Sandy, UT to watch "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" in the round at the Hale Theater. It was a great production, and fun to see it on a round stage. Very impressive as well as entertaining. We went out to eat after at a tasty Thai Restaurant for dinner. Nothing better than great company, great entertainment, and great food to make for a nice outing.
Dale and I were invited to sing in a choir for a devotional that was going to be held in the Logan temple for those serving in the temple and their spouses. Pres. M. Russell Ballard the acting Pres. of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles) and Elder Gary E. Stevenson (a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles) were the speakers at the devotional. It was pretty neat being able to sing in the top floor of the temple or the Holy of Holies Room as well as be taught by our Church leaders and feel the spirit of the meeting. We sat directly across from the speakers.
After the devotional we went to our Church, and I taught my Gospel Doctrine lesson. It went over well too. It all made for a nice Sabbath Day.
I had the opportunity to get together with some of my childhood friends from River Heights. One of the gals in our group, Janis Tingey Workman has been called on a mission and was staying at her daughters who lived close to Lori Earl Andres in Farmington, UT. Lori pulled those that could come together, and we had a potluck lunch at Lori's house. We ate, visited, laughed, and reminisced of days gone by. What a great group of women and friends. It was a wonderful afternoon well spent.

Dale has got in some fishing with Dave Rayfield, Ned Hansen, and Brent Kelly, some neighbor friends, at Oneida Reservoir and Treasureton Reservoir. They caught a few, but never kept any, the outing was the big catch. I came home from town one of the times and found this note Dale had left me. At least I knew where he was and who he was with!
He also took advantage of getting outdoors by going camping in the La Sall Mountain Range near Blanding, UT with Dave Rayfield and Brad Kidman. They were helping a friend of Dave's find an elk, so they say. I know better, though it was just to get in the mountains.
Dale did say they saw a lot of deer, elk, and some turkeys. They heard elk bugling all around them too. It was a good trip for all because Dave's friend ended up getting a decent sized elk to take home.
Nate and Diana finally went on their honeymoon. They went big too, by going to Italy. They rented a sailboat and sailed along the coast area of the Mediterranean Sea and got in some rock climbing on the island of Sardinia. Now that's a honeymoon!!
They also celebrated Diana's birthday with this trip. It was a big one. Diana turned 40. I'd say she's aging well. Happy Birthday Diana!!
The Mallory clan is full swing into competitive soccer season. All in all, they are all doing pretty well too.
Jaxson got his braces off just in time to attend his first Homecoming Dance. He went with a fun group, and they had a great time. Oh, the joys of high school, right?
When Andrew's not working, he gets the family out doing. They took Lindsay's brother and his kids out boating and also got in some time in the mountains on their ATV. He knows how to put smiles on the kids' faces.
Garrett's keeping busy with helping families get into homes with the way the rates are, and with the kids in school, Zandra's filled up her time by helping with the PTA and getting the kids to their different activities.
The Hassell's let June experience her first RSL Soccer game live. She loved it.
Jason's also keeping busy in the loan mortgage business with the way the economy is.
They celebrated their 5-year anniversary this month on the same day as Danica's Grandma Petersen's birthday, as well as her new sister-in-law's birthday!! A great day to remember three wonderful occasions. Happy Anniversary Jason and Danica!!
June has learned to sit up all by herself at 6 months!! That's some strong ab muscles going on.
They joined up with Jason's family and went to the St. Anthony, ID Sand Dunes. Jason took his motorcycle, and they all had a fun time. This is becoming a Hassell family tradition.
June also got to visit her first Corn Maze with dad and mom. A sign that fall is around the corner. I don't know who liked it more mom or baby.
There was another birthday celebrated this month. The 98th birthday of our dear Prophet, Russell M. Nelson. To look at him you'd think he's in his 80's. He is quite the man, and a great example of a Christ-like person. Happy Birthday Pres. Nelson!! Thank you for ALL you are and do.
Another big event happened this month with the passing of Queen Elizabeth ll, at the age of 96 years. She served as the Queen of England for 70 years!!
The Queen's coffin was decades old and lined with lead, with 8 pall bearers carrying it. She was an icon for the people of Great Britian.
September definitely lived up to its name. It was a month of comfort and consolation in a time of distress or sadness. We are still experiencing effects from COVID by seeing more deaths, inflation still high, gas prices high, and there is still unrest among Russia and Ukraine. We've had parts of our country hit severely with tropical storms and a lot of flooding that have put many without homes.
From the news...The storm made landfall over the west coast of Florida as a category 4 storm. It knocked out power to more than 2 million people in Florida.
"Widespread, life-threatening catastrophic flash and urban flooding, with major to record flooding along rivers, is expected to continue across central Florida," the National Hurricane Center said in an update.
The storm initially hit near Cayo Costa, Florida with maximum sustained winds at 150 mph. It hit Punta Gorda, near Pirate Harbor, just a few hours later.
The hurricane left all of Cuba without power after it pummeled the island. At least two storm-related deaths were reported in Cuba.
As the storm continues to batter the Florida coast, the National Hurricane Center issued new watches and warnings for parts of North Carolina and South Carolina.
This month has been full of great memory making events either by remembering loved ones or spending time with loved ones. It has also given us much to be grateful for and one of those things was the sunshine and blue skies, which were a welcome treat.
