The word Avocation is tied to the word's, amusement and business. So here goes!!!
For some amusement...... we went to Dale's 45th Sky View High School Class Reunion.
Did you know that back in 1977 the US President was Jimmy Carter, USA's population was 220.2 million and the world population hit 4.20 billion? The average Income per year was $13,570.00 and minimum wage was $2.30/hr.? That the first Star Wars film, Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, premiered on May 25, 1977, and filmgoers lined up for hours to see it? Elvis Presley performed his last-ever concert, in Indianapolis, Indiana's Market Square Arena, and that Apple Computer was incorporated?
Sounds like Dale's pretty old, but I'd say he doesn't look THAT old!! We had a nice time visiting and reminiscing with old friends. The bad news is time flies. The good news is you're the pilot.
For more amusement...... Dale and I went to Bear Lake and stayed in our trailer at the new Sun Outdoors Resort (formerly Blue Water Resort). We went on a bike ride, Dale went on an ATV ride, we played Pickleball, we went for a walk on the beach (the water is SO low), played games and survived a pretty strong wind and rainstorm.
The Hassell's joined us for a couple of nights. We mostly played games with them in the trailer because the weather wasn't that great. But we had fun and June was a cute camper!!
On our way home there was a cattle drive happening in the canyon. That was pretty cool to see how all those cowboys handled it. It was nice to come home and see the rain had greened up the lawn some too.
We mixed a little business in with some amusement by going to the annual Petersen Reunion. My oldest brother, Craig, and his family were in charge of it. The bulk of it fell on their oldest daughter, Carolee, however because Craig & Janet are living in St. George. We went to Mendon, UT on a nice sunny day and played games, visited, ate, and reminisced on days gone by. The only family that wasn't represented was the Spark's family (my sister, De Ann and Steve's crew). We did, get to visit with them, however, when we had our sibling meeting via Facetime. A fun day for all that attended. Out of our family Amie's and Andrew's families were all that could make it, but we had fun. Much thanks to Craig's crew for pulling us together!!

For business one of Dale's missionary companions (that's living in Portugal now but was visiting his daughter that lives in American Fork) stopped by with his wife, daughter, and her two kids. It was a joy to visit them and hear them reminisce of days gone by.
For amusement...... we hosted a neighborhood party here and had 73 people come! We picked a good night. The weather was great, the company was great, and the food was tasty. We feel blessed to live in such a great neighborhood.
Adding more business (actually service) to the month.... I served in the temple by doing initiatory work for a friend from the Church History Tour last month. Then I went through a session acting proxy for that same name. I also served in the Youth Center.
Dale and I served at the traveling Ancient Tabernacle Event that came to Logan. He greeted people at the tabernacle entrance, and I was in the church building sitting by the temple murals to make sure that they weren't being touched. We were glad we could help out for this special event.
I was able to again usher "Man of La Moncha" and "The Magic Flute", for the Utah Festival Opera at the Eccles Theater.
I also ushered the production of "The Little Mermaid" that was put on by the Cache Theater Company group at the Eccles. The cast was made up from mostly local teenagers. What an awesome experience for these kids. It was fun and young and old alike enjoyed it.
For amusement...... It was Kennlyn's birthday this month and for her birthday gift from us I took her to the Beauty School and we each got manicures, then Dale joined us for dinner at Noodles & Company. It was nice to spend some one-on-one time with our oldest granddaughter. Happy Birthday Kennlyn!!
For Kennlyn's birthday party she asked Grandpa Dale if he would take her friends out waterskiing. Of course, he wanted to!! Turning 14 only happens once!! They all had a fun time.
My nephew, Adam Petersen, added some amusement for Dale. He took him out on Hyrm Dam in his bass fishing boat. He didn't disappoint either. Dale's smile says it all. They both had a great time. Thanks, Adam, for sharing your time and talents.
Happy Birthday Nate!! He turned 40!! It's hard to believe we have a kid that old already!
Lili joined in on the fun too!
For some business and amusement......Nate and Diana headed up to the top of Forbidden Peak in the North Cascades because the weather didn't let them get there the day they got married. This is what Diana posted on Instagram..."And finally, the summit we've been dreaming of! Third attempt at Forbidden Peak was finally a success. We started at 2:30am from the car in a very dense fog. We weren't sure if we'd get any of the famous views. By the time we summitted, the sun was breaking through and we got to see gorgeous 360-degree views of the North Cascades. I'm still on cloud 9 from this moment.
For more amusement they were able to take Garrett, Zandra and the kids out on the sailboat for a day of fun on the water. The kids LOVED spending time with Uncle Nate and Aunt Diana, and I think Garrett and Zandra had fun too.
Nate did get back to business and ended up having LASIK surgery on his eyes so that he won't need his glasses. Sweet for him huh? I'd say he's rockin' the new look!
The Mallory's definitely got in some amusement by going to the Sea Quest Aquarium as a family for some last of the summer fun.
They got to business and played in some soccer tournaments too. Amie's still involved with coaching or helping out with all of the kids' teams and Matt is a great support.
Matt's been busy getting ready for school to start. He made a fun bulletin board for the hallway by his office to welcome the kids back to school.
All but Amie started back to school, here's what she posted on her Facebook page:
Late in posting this groups 1st day of school…we have Matt at 17yrs, Jaxson in 11th grade, Kennlyn in 8th grade, Langston in 4th grade, and Mazin in 1st grade! Now that I have a few more quiet hours at home with them all gone I’ve picked up a remote part-time job from home to keep myself busy…wish me luck! We wish them all luck and a great school year!
Andrew was all business at work and at home. He was featured in a magazine because of his job. Pretty impressive! Now we have Nate, Diana, and Andrew that have been featured in a magazine. Boy it makes me feel pretty special to be their mom.
They also took an offer on the home they are selling. If it all works out, they'll be out of the house by the end of the month and living in their new home. Pretty exciting!!
Eloise decided she wanted to start soccer again and we were able to go watch her play in a game. She's enjoying it and has scored for the team as well. I'd say she's getting the hang of it. Way to go Eloise!!
They got moved into their new house right before the kids started school. Lindsay posted this on Facebook: "All my babies are in school and it’s wonderful yet sad. Titan is in 6th; Eloise is in 4th and Nora and Arwyn are in all day Kindergarten." They grow up too fast!!
Garrett and Zandra got in some amusement and business this month as well. They took a trip to Washington state to be part of Zandra's good friend, Grace Rogers' wedding. The whole family got involved and all had a good time. I heard Jorie and Luke were a hit on the dance floor too.
They went to Vancouver, CA and saw a few sights, then joined up with Nate, Diana and Lili to do some sailing around the San Juan Islands.
With school starting it's back to business and a schedule for the kids. Zandra has her mornings without both the kids, because Jorie's in 1st grade all day, but Luke is just a half day in kindergarten. I think Zandra's okay with that though. All are excited for school, Zandra's serving with the school PTA to be involved, and the kids can ride the bus together to school.
Garrett gets in some amusement with his Church calling every now and again. They went on a bike ride on the Wasatch Crest Trail with the Young Men he works with as an end of summer activity. It's a good thing Garrett's in shape to keep up with those boys. I don't know who loves the activities more the boys or Garrett.
Danica and Jason know how to mix business with amusement. Besides joining up with Dale and I for a few days at Bear Lake they stayed good on their word and cashed in their Christmas gift to the Mallory's by taking the whole family out boating at Pineview Reservoir. It was a nice evening and June got to know her cousins better. It was a fun way to make their gift into a great memory for all there.
Jason pulled their boat down to St. George and left it at his dad's condo, then he drove to Las Vegas where Danica was with the Hassell ladies throwing a bachelorette party for Jason's sister Carlee, who is getting married next month. Jason tended June while he worked remotely in the hotel room. It was a win, win deal for all.
After the girls' weekend, Jason drove Danica and June back to St. George where they stayed a few days before hooking up the boat and heading to Lake Powell for a friend's trip. June loves riding in the boat, playing in the water, and hanging out with dad and mom. I think they kind of like having her around too.
Dale and I feel blessed that we have such great kids that can balance avocation (amusement and business) to make time for work and family fun.
