Factoid February

Factoid: an invented fact believed to be true because of its appearance in print. A brief and trivial news item.

Well, I don't know how trivial or brief this months post will be, but it is in print and true!

We've had quite a rollercoaster ride this month with the weather. It got up into the 60's and in the lows of 11 degrees. We had spring and than freezing winter with another couple of decent snow storms. Pretty crazy, but we are back up to normal for our water precipitation levels which is nice.

We sold our 2004 Tahoe and Dale got him a truck. It's a 2014 Ford F250 Super Duty with a Power Stroke Diesel engine. I think he's in heaven.

It's too long to fit right in the garage, so Dale had to build ramps for the tires so he could go up over the step in the garage. The garage definitely feels a lot smaller with that massive truck in there!

Happy Birthday Jason!! Danica's beau celebrated his birthday by getting out of the northern Utah cold. They went to St. George and did some hiking in Snow Canyon.

They got in some golfing as well. Then he shared his cake with his brother who has a birthday close to his. I'd say that's the way to spend your birthday!!

I ushered a fun show at the Eccles-- Scarlet Pimpernel was put on by a local theater group, Music Theater West. It was very entertaining, very well done and fun.

I went to Garrett and Zandra's and watched Jorie and Luke while Garrett and Zandra went to The Killers concert.

Danica stopped by after she got off work and helped me have fun with the kids. We had fun and it was good to visit with Danica too. Thanks Danica!!

They got back quite late so I pulled up a blanket over me and slept on their couch for the night and left in the morning after a tasty breakfast prepared by Zandra.

They found out Luke's got some major allergies to dairy, wheat, and almonds. That sure cuts out a lot of good food for Luke and Zandra because she's still nursing him. The formula they'd have to use costs a lot so she's trying to change her diet, but has already lost weight and she really can't afford to loose a lot of weight!! They're waiting to do more tests and hope to figure something out soon.

I ushered another show, Ailey l l that was part of the Cache Arts touring season. Wow! What a great dance troupe!! I thoroughly loved it. They were SO good, you could just feel the emotion in their dance. I am so glad that I've been able to see some of these shows.

The 2018 Winter Olympics began in PyeongChang, South Korea. What was so neat was the fact that North Korea and South Korea joined together and became united again during the games at least. Also, it was neat seeing our Vice President, Mike Pence, sitting by North Korea dictators. We've had a few run-in's with them, so this was neat to see.
I must say the 17 days they were on, our TV was on a lot. I love watching these athletes give it their all. The opening ceremonies started it off with a bang.

We had a few first time gold medals for the USA in the Women's Ice Hockey and Men's curling which caused a lot of excitement. We also had a few disappointments, but the athletes did their best and that's all that matters in the end, knowing you gave it all you could.

They said that this was the coldest Winter Olympics they have ever had, but the cold didn't stop Team USA from getting medals. We ended up in 4th place on the count with 23 medals--9 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze. Norway came in first with a total count of 39 medals.

The closing ceremony was pretty cool. We didn't get to watch it live, but we caught some of the re-broadcast. I was amazed at how young the musicians were that they showcased. There was a 13 yr. old electric guitar player, and an 11 year old that sang the theme song. Very impressive.

They also used a lot of computerized technology to create some cool designs and created some cool costumes.

It was good while it lasted. I'm looking forward to the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan next.

Dale was able to participate with the American Festival Chorus and sing at a prominent businessman, and loved church leader's funeral. John M. Huntsman Sr. passed away. The choir was asked to perform all of the music at his funeral. He made a lot of monetary donations to Utah State. Utah State named the Business Building after him also.

In the same day as Jon M. Huntsman's funeral, The American Festival Chorus preformed that evening at the new Newell Daines Concert Hall on the USU campus with Take 6 in "Music Has No Passport". Take 6 is a men's quartet that sings great harmony and uses their voices to make the background music. They were way entertaining. They also had a guest bagpipe player join the choir for a number which was pretty neat too.
My friend, Kathy Fishburn, and I went to dinner at Fredrico's and then went to the concert. It was a fun out for both of us.

The next day, The American Festival Chorus sang in the Logan Tabernacle at an Interfaith Concert hosted by the Westminster Bell Choir as well as other musical groups. Dale's been one busy guy with practices and performances hasn't he!

For a early Valentines Day treat, I went to Sky High Players production of Cinderella at Sky View HS with Lindsay, Titan and Eloise. We had second row seats and we all loved it. Thanks Lindsay for the fun date.

Kennlyn and Amie got creative this Valentines and came up with a Max the Dog Valentine Box. You fed the dog the valentines. Pretty clever they are.

Dale gave me a beautiful bouquet of a dozen red roses intermixed with other flowers and a nice card for Valentines. I gave Dale a night out. We went to a Dinner/Magic Show at the Old Rock Church in Providence, UT. It wasn't big time magic, but enough that I was impressed and in awe of how he pulled his tricks off. We had a nice magical evening.

I ushered a few shows at the Eccles. Pickleville Playhouse put on Forever Plaid and Cache Arts hosted The Black Violins, an upbeat violin show that was SO fun!! Both shows were definitely worth buying a ticket for, but I was lucky enough to see them for free because I donned my black pants, white shirt and burgundy vest.

We got dumped on right before President's Day. A total of 15 inches of that beautiful white stuff fell from the skies and gave us some much needed moisture as well as some fun in the snow for President's Day. The Mallory's stopped and picked up Titan and Eloise and they all came over for some fun in the snow. Good times were had by all.

Nate got out in the snow (does that surprise you)by climbing to the top of Chair Peak in the Seattle area with some buddies.

He also got in a Dry Tooling climb on Cougar Mtn. where there wasn't much snow, just bare rock.

Then to top off the month he took a quick trip over the boarder and went into British Columbia and did some backcountry skiing into Elfin Lake with his buddy, Brody Hatch and another friend. They don't let the cold and snow stop them. It pays off though because it's soooo pretty!!

Kim played it smart and stayed home with Rue and prepared for her finals for school. All the work will pay off Kim. We wish you the best.

Matt took Jaxson and Kennlyn to Bosie,ID to visit his mom and to watch his past Oakley Girls Basketball team play in the state play-offs. The girls played well and ended up taking state. Matt should feel like he had a part in that because he helped build the team.
While they were there Jaxson and Kennlyn got to hang out with their cousins and had some fun times so it was a win, win for all.

While Matt and the older kids were gone, Amie met up with some of her friends from her soccer days for lunch. "The Crew" is still going strong. Aren't great friendships awesome?!

Andrew and Lindsay decided to put their place up for sale and they had it sold two days later, with the clause that they'd close on it in Oct. They took the plunge and bought some land in Richmond and are going to build a home. Exciting for them!!
Andrew's been working in Alabama so Lindsay got to deal with all of the paperwork, but she did just fine and things are moving on.

Eloise celebrated her 5th birthday by getting her ears pierced. She's one brave little gal, and she loves wearing her new accessory.
What a cutie she is. Happy Birthday Eloise!!

They had the family over when Andrew got back from his work trip to celebrate with the extended family and did the cake and ice cream.
Kindergarten here she comes!!

I help in Titan's classroom with phonics, reading and doing teacher helps. It's been fun seeing Titan at school in action. I went to lunch with him one time after helping in his class. We took too long eating our tasty lunch of chilli, cinnamon rolls, and salad though so we didn't get much playtime on the playground before his class whistle blew. We had fun though, and I hope to get to do it again.

Andrew got home, and two days later Lindsay had some major surgery done. She had a huge cyst on her ovary and another growth in her uterus, so she got them removed. She also had some other things taken care of in that area as well. It was nice that Andrew could be there for her.

With the help of family and adopted family the kids were taken care of while she was in the hospital. Adpoted Aunt Cindy, Aunt Amie, and I covered for the kids the day of the surgery until Andrew came home to let Lindsay and he get some sleep.  The kids were great and the Doctor said her surgery went great with no complications. She just needs to lay low for 4-6 weeks.

I went and watched the kids the next day after Titan had gone to school and tended them until Andrew brought Lindsay home to recover. He'll be her nurse and Mr. Mom for the next 4 weeks. We'll help when we can and we hope all goes well. The kids were so excited to see mom home! I hope she can love them from a distance. She's not suppose to lift anything heavier than 10lbs. for 4 weeks. We wish her the best on her recovery.

Garrett was able to attend Utah's Realtors Day and Gov. Gary Herbert talked to them about Utah's economy as well as other speakers. So Garrett's rubbing shoulders with the big wigs now I guess.

They had Zandra's mom, Gloria, come for a visit. She needed her grandma fix and the kids loved it. Zandra even prettied up her mom's nails.

Garrett and Zandra also took Jorie ice skating and she loved it! She may be taking a liking to the ice like her mom.

Danica and Jason went to the Strikes for Kids Charity Event with some of Jason's siblings and got to meet Jazz's Donovan Mitchell (hence the #35 jerseys) and Royce O'Neal. They were pretty stoked about that as you can tell. Donovan even signed their jerseys!!

Danica  also took a little trip to Denver, CO and spent some time in the Rockies. Her good friend Jhani Williams is going to pharmacy school there and needed some girlfriend time. Great friends are worth the trip.

Well, that's the facts as far as I know for February. It's been full of a little bit of everything and then some.
