Jim Dandy January

The beginning of a new year----2018----What will it bring?

Well, we didn't have a lot of new snow, but it did stay cold enough to keep Dale out on the ice. (maybe the new ice auger he got for Christmas helped) He took Jaxson, and Kennlyn out, to his "secret" spot. We decided Jaxon got the biggest fish on this outing. I have a feeling they'll be back soon, because if they keep catching them, why not?

We had Garrett, Zandra and their two cuties come for a visit. They went for a little Razor ride and then we topped off the day by going to Tandoori Oven to celebrate the first day of 2018 for a fun and tasty time.

Dale had his annual UASBO conference at Little America in Salt Lake with the school board. I tagged along and enjoyed some rest and relaxation.
The weather has been so mild that they had pansies and daffodils coming up!!

We were also entertained with some fun entertainment by a Big Band type group, a High School drum group, as well as a couple of great speakers. Another great way to kick off the year, right?

Dale sang with the American Festival Chorus for the 25th Anniversary of the Eccles Theatre.

I finished up the DIBELS testing and was able to check in on Matt while testing at Cedar Ridge Elementary. He's been getting rave reviews with the programs that he's been working on in the schools. Way to go Matt!

Dale did go back and he took Jaxson, Kennlyn, and Langston along with our neighbors, Dave Rayfield, Dee Child, and Dan Magda, to Laketown, UT to his special fishing spot and they all caught a lot of fish. However they weren't as big as last time. Those big fish are too smart to get caught twice.

Both Dale and Matt got tickets to the New York Knicks vs Utah Jazz basketball game at the Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake for Christmas.(yes, Amie and I planned a guys date). They saw Jason and Danica at the game and it ended up that they were able to sit together and cheer on the Jazz. However, they must not of cheered loud enough because the Jazz lost the game, but it was a close one, so that made it fun.

Andrew and Lindsay invited me to go to Disneyland with them, and I took them up on the offer.
Day 1: We loaded up the Armada and Andrew stayed at the wheel until we stopped and stayed a night in Hurricane, UT  The kids were great travelers.
Day 2: After breakfast we loaded up again and Andrew held the wheel until we checked into the Howard Johnson's Hotel that was walking distance to Disneyland.
We checked out Downtown Disney and got a bite to eat. Lindsay had bought everyone matching t-shirts and the kids were pretty excited!
Day 3: Lindsay honed her packing skills and loaded up the stroller. We all headed to the happiest place on earth Disneyland!! All wearing our Mickey Mouse shirts too. Would you believe the first ride we all went on was the Carousel?

Lindsay,Titan and Eloise were in heaven. Arwyn was taking it all in, Nora was hanging on tight, and Andrew was hamming it up for the camera.

Titan and Eloise tried to remove the sword from the stone, but it just wasn't meant to be. Maybe next time.  We saw Goofy, and Penguin.......

Andrew, Lindsay and I took turns riding the rides, we stopped for a little lunch, watched the  show "Mickey and the Magical Map, and rode more rides.  Nora and Arwyn loved the Small World Ride!

The Mad Hatter Tea Cup ride wasn't Lindsay's cup of tea though.

We checked out Toon Town for a little bit, but didn't get to see it all so we'll be back for more.

We stayed at the park until dark. The kids were great and we all came back tuckered out.

Day 4: We headed out to Disney California Adventure today and started off big by going to the Disney Jr. Dance Party. Titan got his moves down and the kids got their first real glimpse at Mickey and Minnie.

We hit up Cars Land where Andrew and Lindsay took the kids to ride with McQueen on the Speedway, while I took Nora and Arwyn to see the DJ's Dance and Drive show on Route 66.

Titan and Eloise were able to meet Root, from the movie Guardians of the Galaxy as well as watch a Dance off.

Bug's Life came to life in Bug's Land and we got to watch Frozen--Live at the Hyperion Theater. Everyone loved that.
Again the kids were great, soaking in as much fun as they could and riding as many rides as they could. Another day for the books. Another good nights sleep.

Day 5: Disneyland here we come again! We spent time in Frontierland and got to see Tigger, Rabbit and Eyore from Winnie the Pooh.

We went on the Pirates of the Caribbean Ride, Indiana Jones ride, rode the Mississippi Queen, saw the Tikki Hut Birds, Tarzan's tree house, went on the Jungle cruise and hit up Toon Town by walking through Mickey and Minnie's houses, rode more rides and checked out all the sights that go with it. The kids got to see Mickey Mouse up close and personal even. That made their day.

The kids wanted to ride the Small World ride again and then we hit up Tomorrowland and rode the Star Wars ride (which Titan LOVED), Matterhorn (which Tian did not love). The kids got to drive cars on the motor raceway and we went on the submarine ride. I'm sure I missed naming a lot of the rides, but we hit most of them. Some even twice. Disneyland treated us well, the weather was perfect and the kids were loving every minute of it.

Another fun, full day where dreams come true, and sweet dreams are made.

Day 6: In Downtown Disney there's a Lego Store and we stopped to check it out. There's some pretty cool Lego built displays. All are made out of Lego's too!! Very impressive!!

Our last day was spent in California Adventure Park. Giving us two days in each park. We caught a few more rides and shows. I liked watching Operation Playtime! -- featuring the Green Army men from Toy Story.

When I was walking back from a ride with Andrew and Eloise we saw Chip and Dale and Chip took Eloise's hand and walked with her for a bit. Her face was just beaming.
We also got to see Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps from the movie Zootopia, as well as Captain America,  and Scully from Monsters Inc.

The kids wanted to go on the Bug's Life 3D ride again and then we went to the World of Color Show. They used water, color, fire, music, and animation to put on a spell binding show we all loved. Thanks to Andrew, we even had a great spot to see it.
Our last day of being among all the fun. It was worth it. I should of had my fitbit with me because I'm sure we walked a LOT of miles every day.

Day 7: We checked out the hotels swimming pool and then got ready for the day. Andrew was so good to take care of the little ones during the trip. As you can tell if you feed one, you just feed both to keep everyone happy.

We packed up our bags, loaded up and headed out of our hotel home away from home. You can't go to California and not go to the beach so we headed to Seal beach! The water was a bit chilly and it wasn't real warm, but still nicer than the 30's back home. We played in the waves as we walked along the beach and collected some sea shells.

The waves were pretty good and their were some guys out doing some surfing. I love sinking my feet in the sand and listening to the waves roll in.
We left California with sand between our toes, sun-kissed cheeks, and great memories.
To break up the long drive we stopped in St. George for the night.

Day 8: It seemed that the new day came upon us really quick. Maybe it was because we got in late and are still recovering from a big week. After a filling breakfast we headed north. We ran into sunny skies and then a snow storm, but it finally let up and even though their were cars off the road, Andrew kept us on the road. The kids traveled really well. I'm sure they're recovering from a full week of fun as well.

We started out with sunshine and then drove into the storm.

It was a good feeling to come out of Sardine Canyon and see our beautiful Cache Valley. There's no place like home. I was glad to go, but it's always good to be home (even if it's back to the freezing cold).

While I was gone, Dale made it in the paper! The Cache County School District purchased a new building for their main office and they're going to sell a building that they won't be needing. The cool thing is the new building has a lot more windows in it so it won't seem so dark and has a lot more room so people aren't crammed into small offices. The old building is pretty old, but they're going to still use it for the technology crew, lunch/food services, school nurses and warehouse services. Through Dale's great budgeting skills the district was able to pay cash, $5.2 million dollars, for the new building. Pretty cool, I think.

To finish up the month for Dale and I, I got to visit with a 17yr. old young man that was going to be sealed to his parents.  Both of his parents had been married before and added them to their blended family. He was a sharp kid, and it was great talking with him. A different dynamic for us where he was older, but still really neat because he understood the temple more than the little kids so it meant a lot to him. His parents had gotten sealed together just before his sealing to them. Special day for all.

The Seattle area mountains seem to have a lot more snow than we do because Nate got out and did some skiing/climbing around Mt. Baker.

Kim started college at the Community College there and is teaching a fitness class in the morning. That makes for a full day in my book. We wish you the best  Kim.

Amie celebrated her 33rd birthday this month!  Age looks good on her.

She's been helping coach Jaxon's basketball team, working in the Pre-school at Sports Academy, and getting their house fixed up more by adding some color to the bedrooms.

The family's good to support both the kids in their basketball games as well.
Kennlyn Rocked the Halls by meeting her reading goal at school. Way to go Kennlyn!!

Langston's getting better at skiing all by himself. Amie's taken him up to Cherry Peak a couple of times. I think he's getting the hang of it.

Matt's still going strong in his new job and enjoys the time he has with the kids.

Lindsay celebrated her 30th birthday, and Titan celebrated 100 days at school. He went to school dressed as a 100 yr. old or as he said, "A old soul in a little body", to celebrate. Pretty cute for 100 years old I'd say.

Nora started crawling, really crawling. Not doing the GI Joe crawl. She's got to keep up with Arwyn.

Little petite Arwyn's standing up to things at 8 months! I have a feeling that she'll be an early walker.

Zandra took on a new look by cutting her hair shorter. I think it looks so cute!! Really though, it's Zandra that's cute, the hair just helps.

Jorie is all girl. She's loving the jewelry, and loves being a big sister to Luke.

Garrett's pushing out home loans with the interest rates low and the economy doing well. He took a day off work and went hunting with his friend, Mike McKnight, on the last day his license would allow him to go. They didn't see anything, but got some cool looking antlers. This just wasn't his year. Maybe next year.

Danica came to Logan and watched Kennlyn play in her game. She's one of her biggest cheerleaders.

Jason and Danica took advantage of any new snow that fell and got in some skiing at Snow Basin when they could.

Our beloved prophet, Thomas S. Monson, passed away at age of 90,  ending an era of many years of service to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  What a great example of service towards all mankind and what great love he showed to all. With his passing his counselors, Henry B. Eyring and Dieter F. Uchtdorf took their place back into the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

The next man in line, Russell M. Nelson, who was the Pres. of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, was sustained as the new prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He is 93 years old, and still going strong. He called Henry B. Eyring and Dallin H. Oaks as his counselors. I know these men will direct and guide our church in the way the Lord wants it to go. They are all great men of faith, a love for the Lord, and examples of goodness for all.

It's been a Jim Dandy January and a great kick-off to another year. I'm looking forward to the next 11 months of 2018.
