September Synthesis

Synthesis-the composition or combination of parts or elements so as to form a whole.
With all the combinations of parts (people)or elements (places) combining (joining together) this month I figured we has a lot of synthesis going on throughout the month!

To start off the month, the Mallory's joined us at Blue Water Resort on Bear Lake for a couple of days and then, our good friends, the Petersen's joined us for the Labor Day weekend.

We found a spot on the beach that wasn't way crowded!! Fun times with family and friends.

Dale and Mark got up early to get in some fishing. Even though Dale had the right touch and caught the fish, they both enjoyed being in the outdoors. Janette and I enjoyed sleeping in, chilling, going on a walk and visiting.

After going to Sacrament Mtg. in Garden City we changed our clothes and then drove over to Beaver Mtn. where we hiked around and enjoyed the beautiful sights from on top.

We played games, ate, and visited. We feel pretty blessed to have great friends that want to hang out with us.
The Petersen's left Monday morning (Labor Day) after breakfast, so they could meet up with some of their kids for some holiday fun. We chilled at the lake for awhile and then headed home and dropped off the trailer. The Mallory's helped us unload, and then load up the kayaks on the Tahoe. We stopped and got some pizza, and then went to First Dam to have some more fun. It was a great way to end a great holiday weekend.

With school in full swing I started up my testing. It was fun being able to see not only Titan, but Kennlyn this year and getting a hug or a wave from both of them.

Amie and I headed over the mountain to South Weber for a Bridal Shower that Jason's mom, Jan Hassell, hosted. There's been some fires in the mountains by there and we were amazed at how close the fire had come to the homes and how it even jumped the freeway and got close to some homes. We saw a lot of black, burned grass and trees. Pretty sad, but we had a good time meeting Jason's side of the family. Danica will be joining a great family.

We had some excitement up on USU campus when the USU Aggies beat the BYU Cougars in football. The Aggies got to bring back the famous wagon wheel. Way to go USU!!

Amie, Kennlyn and I went to a dinner and then to the General Women's Conference with our Married Student Stake. Kennlyn's first time to go. She said she even had fun. Looks like we may be making this a tradition.

Our garden has been doing great! So great that I've been sharing freely as well as getting a bounty ourselves. The garden is a lot of work, but at harvest time, it's well worth all the effort.

Nate and Kim love living by the water. They take Meru out with them and she doesn't even mind getting wet.

Nate's making sure he gets in his time outdoors by trail hiking with buddies in the Glacier Peak Wildernes area getting in a 24.5 mile jaunt, and on a Tatoosh Range 16 mile run on the back side of Mr. Rainer.

They are also getting the hang of Nate's new schedule as Dr. Hansen.

Life is good in Seattle, for awhile anyway.

The Mallory's found a house in Providence, UT and will be moving in next month. Jaxson and Kennlyn finished up their soccer season on their new teams. Both fit in well, played well,  and made some new friends.
They headed back to Burley, ID for a family event with Matt's family and stopped to check on their house and the pumpkins they left in their garden. I'd say it was good they left them. They are HUGE!!

Andrew and Lindsay showed the Mallory's and I the way up to Porcupine Dam and we checked out the salmon run. We hit it earlier this year and there were a lot more salmon. We even saw some jumping up a little waterfall. It's still pretty awesome to watch and I'm in awe of the determination of these fish.

We got rained on during our picnic, but that didn't dampen the fun.

Andrew and Lindsay loaded up their truck and headed north for a few days. Grandma Leslie (Nora's paternal grandma and a neighbor) ended up watching Arwyn for them.

They went to Jackson Hole,WY and checked out the town.

Then they went into Yellowstone and drove through the park.It was a bit chilly, but they got to see some animals and Old Faithful didn't disappoint either.

They stopped at saw some bears at the Bear Exploratory Museum. The kids LOVED that.

Garrett celebrated his birthday with his cute family in Park City for the day. He even got Jorie to ride down the Alpine slide with him!

I went to their house and watched the kids while they went to the One Republic Concert in Salt Lake. Happy Birthday Garrett!!

Danica and Jason took a break from planning their wedding and went to a Rapters baseball game. Danica got picked to see if she could run around the bases faster than 9.2 sec. She gave it a great effort, but even with her PF flyers on, she just missed the time to break the record, she got 9.5. At least she got a T-shirt out of it.

Probably the biggest deal this month was the Hansen-Hassell big wedding day finally arriving!!!

We had our whole family together for a few days, which made it even better. Nate wouldn't of missed his little sis getting hitched. He and Kim ended up flying into SLC and then getting a rental car to drive to Garland, UT where the venue and the family fun was.

We rented the Bear Hollow Lakes Resort and stayed in the Beach House, while the Hassell's stayed in the Lodge.

Everyone was good to pitch in to help get the venue set up for the big day. It was chilly and rained the first night, but we got a lot set up. We also had the Rehearsal Practice and Dinner and met Jason's family and his groomsmen. After the dinner they had a "toast time" and everyone that wanted shared some type of memory or thoughts about Jason and/or Danica. It was really neat to hear some of the memories that they've made with people.
We missed Jason's brother-in-law, sister, and Mom because his sister had her baby early. Both mom and baby are doing well though, so that's all that matters.

                         The photo-memory path.
                                       Simple, but pretty table decorations,
                                                  Corn Row games to play.
The gift and sign-in desk area. You could also take your picture ;)
Danica loves the Bohemian look theme.
The tree stumps were cut from the Willow tree in our yard that was                              cut down.
The boathouse dock area where we hung curtain lights.

Because of the rain throughout the night we had to change our set-up plans a little, but we got it done with a lot of help and it turned out looking really nice. We hosted a pre-ceremony dinner by having Costa Vida burritos or salads. It hit the spot.
We ran around and put on some of the final touches and then we all  got ready for the wedding.

Andrew built the arch for Danica and Jason. He did a great job.
The view for the guests during the wedding ceremony.
A special touch to the drink area.
Jason is ready and waiting.
Danica, putting on the finishing touches. She made a beautiful                                      bride.
Lindsay did Danica's hair. Doesn't it look beautiful?!
Dale getting a little help from his baby girl.
Jason's dad, Steve, giving the guys some fatherly advice.
Me, checking in with family. We had great support from both sides.
Nate, helping Zandra with her kids. Isn't that what uncles are for?

The weather turned out to be pretty good and the sun even came out just before Steve, Jason's dad, started the ceremony. We had all but four of the 120 chairs filled and it was a beautiful ceremony. Steve (Jason's dad) married Jason and Danica which made it even more special and personal. It was the perfect ceremony for them.

Amie was the maid of honor and Jason's brother as her escort.
Kennlyn was a bridesmaid and Langston was the ring bearer with                          Eloise as his escort.
Dale escorting his baby girl to her soon to be hubby.
Steve Hassell giving them some words of wisdom.
We had a great turn-out from both sides to show their support.
The groomsmen--have you ever seen so many?
The bridesmaids (and ring bearer) looking mighty fine.

Sealed with a kiss                                                                     It's official!!

After getting pictures, the Hassell's and Dale and I joined Jason and Danica in a greeting line and greeted all the wonderful people who came to see them get married or help them celebrate their wedding. The wind picked up for a bit and it got a bit chilly, but then it got to be bearable as long as I had a blanket over my shoulders.
We had a great turnout from friends and family even with it being 35 min. away and chilly.
                        The bridesmaids

                                                 Danica's now a Hassell
                                                                   The guys

                         The gals and guys
                                                              Family pictures

The new Mr. & Mrs. Hassell
                                         We can't forget the grand-parents
Or her beloved Iowa soccer sisters

Zandra made the wedding cake and it was beautiful! It even tasted way yummy too!

I had some great friends help out in the kitchen as well as with transporting the guests as needed to their cars.

I felt like the evening went over pretty good. We had plenty of food, decent weather, and a great venue and a wonderful turnout. What more could I ask?

Jason and Danica seem so happy and will be great for each other. They cut the cake, tossed the garter and bouquet, and drove off through a tunnel of sparklers on Jason's Harley Davidson motorcycle.
What a fun, full day!! We cleaned up what we had to and then went to bed. I sure feel blessed to have the kids I do.

This wedding date will be an easy one for me to remember because they got married on my mom's (Grandma Petersens) birthday! Happy Birthday Mother Dear!! Dad's birthday was on the 1st. This is the month I reflect on what great parents I had and am so thankful for the legacy they left for us. Love you both to infinity and beyond!

After a tasty breakfast prepared by Zandra, we tackled the take down and then because of the rain the other day the venue manager let us stay longer and get in some fun. A group went and did some trap shooting and then all that wanted to got to go water-skiing and boating for a couple of hours. The water was glass and the kids got to take out the kayaks and sit in the hot tub. What a great way to unwind and relax.

The sun came even came out and it warmed up, making it be a great way to end our stay. The venue was perfect for the big day and so pretty! Everyone got along and all seemed to have a good time.
I feel pretty blessed.

Danica and Jason went on a Eastern Caribbean Cruise and had quite a surprise after they left their first port, which was in Puerto Rico. Because of weather issues they had to change their route some. A big hurricane slammed Puerto Rico and caused a bunch of damage and power outages there and to some of the surrounding islands.

They even got their trip extended to 10 days instead of 7 day because they couldn't get to port in Puerto Rico, so they had to sail to Miami, and then they had to get a flight out, but it wasn't until the next day. The only thing that makes staying overnight in the airport bearable is finding an empty pod to catch a little shut eye in.

What an adventure they had as the new Mr. & Mrs. Hassell, huh? I'm just glad all went well for them and that they didn't get caught in the storm.

We had some pretty bizarre weather here for a couple of days as well, but it cleared up and showed us that we sure do live in a beautiful area.

I count my blessings every day and feel like we had a pretty good synthesis going on this month.
