To start out the month I helped in the Youth Center at the Logan Temple. I watched three cute kids (11,8 & 6) who had traveled from California, be sealed to their folks for eternity. They were such a close, cute family and the older kids were definitely touched in the sealing room by the words that were spoken, they had tears rolling down their cheeks. I feel blessed to get to help in a small way on special days like this.
The Mallory's came for the holiday and so Dale took the Mallory kids to Newton to go fishing. They caught a total of nine fish, with Langston reeling in the biggest one. I'd say they had fun.
We kicked off our patriotic events by going to Logan's Cruise-In parade with the Mallory's. (We met up with Matt's folks) It was a step back in time while watching all of the restored cars go by. Some were real old, some were fairly old, and some were from our teenage era. Dale got to see a Isetta car like the one he remembered his family had from his childhood. Fun times, for all.
We also went to Hyrum's Star Spangled Celebration kick-off (we met Matt's folks there as well). Dale sang in the program with the AFC. They sang patriotic songs and even had a gun salute. It was the first time I'd been to this, they put on a nice program.
Nate stopped by for some Independence Day fun on his time off. It was good to have him around. He got to meet the new, and reacquaint himself with his old, nieces and nephews. We went to Logan's Freedom of Fire fireworks show and partied with the crowd in the new Maverick Stadium on campus, and saw the fireworks. Logan puts on a pretty good show.
We also went to Newton Lake for a day and went water skiing, tubing, and kayaking. Garrett and Zandra's family and Danica and Jason also joined us for the fun. Maybe we could call this a reunion? (Although we were missing Nate's wife, Kim, and Andrew)
We wore the kids out.
We came home and had Dutch Oven BBQ spare ribs with all the fixings. Played water-balloon, sand Volleyball, had a water fight and ended the day with our own little, but big fireworks and sparkler show. It was a fun filled day. Happy Birthday America!!
I started ushering for the Utah Opera Festival that we have here in Logan. It's been keeping me going. The shows this season are Music Man, Pirates of Penzance, Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Madame Butterfly. It's the opera's 25th Anniversary so they're doing the top favorites that the patrons voted on last year.
I was ushering Hunchback and Elder Quinton L. Cook, an apostle of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints sat in my area. He shook my hand and I got to talk with him a bit. Both he and his wife are from the Logan area, so they were enjoying the trip down memory lane. One of the ushering benefits I guess.
Dale and I headed to Park City for a couple of days. He had a conference and I tagged along because it's been so hot here. Dale met up with one of his work associates (Preston Kirk) at Jordanelle Reservoir and went fly fishing from their float tubes. I tagged along and went on a hike around part of the lake. It was a nice way to spend the evening.
We also hit the outlets and I got two pairs of Merrell sandals, and Dale got some sandals and some shoes for some killer prices. I love it when we find a deal.
Two of my Aunts passed away this month. Elaine Muir Hadfield was 96 at the time of her passing, and Vonda Hadfield Whitlock was 97 at the time she passed away. Both were dear to my heart. I was probably closer to Aunt Vonda though because of the void she filled for me. Since she didn't have any family in the area, I got to help her out more with the things she needed help with. I'd take her to buy flowers in the spring and then we'd plant them, I'd take her to Dr. appointments, we went to the temple a few times, we'd go to lunch, and I'd go visit her and have her over for dinner.
She fell and broke her kneecaps, which caused her tremendous pain, while we were in Park City, and that did it for her, she never recovered from the fall. Once they got her pain under control and she was able to rest she just went to sleep and didn't wake up. What a way to go, right?
The famous Hadfield Family Reunion continued on, with Max's tribe pulling it off. They did spotlights on all of the Hadfield kids. I found out a few things I didn't know about some of my uncles and aunts. They had games and visiting, but it just wasn't the same without Elaine and Vonda. Out of the ten Hadfield children my Uncle Max is the only one still living now and he's 93. What a great heritage they have left.

Matt and Titan had Birthdays this month. We didn't get to Oakley for Matt's big day, but they were here to help celebrate Titan's 6th birthday. We had dinner and visited with Lindsay's folks.
Happy Birthday Matt and Titan!! You've still got it!
Dale and I took Amie, Jaxson, and his folks with us to Heber City to hear Dale's nephew, Parker Lanzenby, talk in Sacrament Mtg. He recently returned home from his mission to Texas. He gave a great talk as well as shared some neat experiences. We went to a brunch after and visited with family. It was well worth the drive and great to see Parker looking good.
Dale and I spent the Pioneer Day weekend at Blue Water at Bear Lake. We went on a Razor Ride to get away from the crowd. It's dryer than last time. Oh, the difference a month can make. We came back pretty dirty.
Andrew and Lindsay joined us for a day on the beach. There were A LOT more people there this time. With the water level so high and not much beach it was pretty crowded, but we had fun. Titan loved manning a kayak all by himself.
Dale went fishing a couple of times and caught quite a few fish, but didn't have his phone camera to prove he caught anything. We also went and hit a bucket of balls and practiced putting at the Bear Lake Golf Course. I think I could use some more practice, but it was fun.
We went on another Razor ride and saw some pretty views. We decided to come back down the way we'd gone last month to see if it was any better. It started out looking good, because there wasn't a river running down the trail, but it was probably worse because the ruts became big and deep. I'd say about 1 1/2 ft. deep!! We were literally going down on a big angle at times because we were caught in the rut on one side where the Razor was scraping the edge. It was pretty intense, but we went slow and took it easy and made our way back. It made me think of the Pioneers and what they went through to get to the valley.
After Nate celebrated the 4th with us he left our place, and headed South. He spent a night with Garrett and Zandra and went to lunch with Danica. They all enjoyed a little one-on-one time with him. Then Nate headed to California and hooked up with his buddy, Jeremy Koons, to do some climbing and a bike race. The ride was called the Death Ride because of the high and low elevations they went on. Brutal, but they finished. Cross that one off the bucket list
After 23 miles, 3k vertical of dirt road, from Death Valley, the lowest point in the country to White Mountain, the highest rideable point. They even saw some 4,000 year old trees to top it off. I'd say he's a little saddle sore.
Nothing better to cure saddle soreness than to climb a mountain.
Mt. Tallac in CA to be exact.
Once home, while Nate was resting up from his excursions in CA, Kim took a break from her two jobs (a new one at Amazon, and another one where she works for a company where she checks in on older people to make sure they're doing ok and to help them with their medications), and headed to the hills with their dog, Meru, and a friend, and did some backpacking and hiking around Mt. Baker along Shannon Ridge. They live in a beautiful area alright.
After his short rest, Nate joined a couple of friends (one was Brody Hatch from Hyde Park) and they ended up taking a second attempt to summit Mt. Rainer. They weren't the only ones on top of the mountain at 8am, after leaving Paradise Lodge at 9pm. He remarked, "It was a busy day on the Disappointment Clever for sure, but it was an amazing experience." So, is Mt. Everest next?
Amie and Matt had Danica and Jason pay them a visit over the 24th of July holiday. They went to the rodeo and had some small town fun.
Amie's also been making quite a few trips to our place, and each time they've had a load of things from their house with them for us to store in our upper garage until they can find a house. It's surprising how much stuff you can accumulate over the years.
They thought they had their house sold until five days before it was to close when they got a call from the buyer saying that they'd have to back out because the people that were going to buy their house backed out. Bummer!! So, it's back to getting the word out that their house is for sale again. They've been sleeping on mattresses on the floor and sitting on camp chairs in preparation to close their loan and officially move out. Oh, well, it makes for cleaning the house easier when they do move out. We wish them the best.
Andrew got Nora's room all finished up and Lindsay added the decorating to complete it. It turned out real cute too. Nora's one happy (big) little gal.
Garrett and Zandra's little guy, Luke, turned 2 months.....isn't he just the cutest?
Zandra got away for a bit to pay a surprise visit to her friend, Kaitlin, that lives in Las Vegas, for her birthday. Garrett was a trooper and took over the duty of child care while she was gone.
They also have had some visitors spend a little time with them. One of the Signh Sisters, Renu, from India came for a couple of days. Garrett took her on a motorcycle ride, which she loved, as well as loved seeing the kids. Jorie loved her new friend too.
Zandra's good friend from WA, Grace, came for a couple of days as well. Zandra and Grace got some good catching up done.
Things are staying busy for Garrett at work as well. Infact, busy enough that he changed over to straight commission for his pay. We hope things continue to look up for their cute family.
Danica journeyed over the Lake Powell with her Fiance' for a family reunion with Jason's family. They soaked in some sunshine and played in the sun. What else do you do at Lake Powell, right? She came back with a killer tan though.
She also bought some hair extensions so she can have some long hair for the wedding. She said she likes them, but with the heat it's a killer to wear them.
Oh, the things a girl does to improve on something that's already beautiful in my eyes. Live and learn, I guess.
Danica's aunts on Dale's side hosted a Double Bridal Shower for Danica and Becca (his brother, Craig's, daughter). They held it at Pioneer Valley Lodge, where Dale's folks live. Grandma Hansen has the tradition of having the grandkids choose a quilt pattern and then they go pick out some fabric for her to make them a quilt. A lot of love and hard work goes into these quilts. Something Danica will cherish for a long time I'm sure.
They both got some nice things and got a good start to make being married go a little smoother to start with. Becca gets married in August, so she's had couple of showers already, but this was Danica's first one. They are blessed to be so loved.
Our garden has taken off!! We got cucumbers, zuchinni, and yellow squash galore. I've been putting buckets out by our front porch for people to just come and take what they want and Dale's been taking sacks to work with him. At least we aren't wasting it. We even got a few blackberries coming on. This heat hasn't slowed the garden down much.
We got our backyard all done. With the sod and plants in, new sand in the VB pit, the edging, and rocks in it looks complete. I think it adds so much to the yard.
Bring on the party!! July has been a definite jubilation.
