The snow didn't stay long, but long enough to mess up one of our trees. It was so heavy that it broke a couple of limbs off of our blossoming tree in the front of our yard close to our house. I hope the tree recovers and grows back well, I love it's spring blossoms.
Danica mixed things up a bit by heading back to St. George to walk the walk as a DSU college graduate! She was glad to visit the red rock again and glad she made it official.
Amie, Kennlyn, Langston, Mazin and I headed south a bit earlier so we could pick up her cap and gown. We took the kids to the splash pad in town to play and then got cleaned up and went to dinner. Dale, Danica and Jason, (her boyfriend) got in quite late because they all stayed for work and Dale had board meeting. We were glad they all made it to St. George late, but safe, so that we could all celebrate this big accomplishment with Danica. Way to go D!!!
Langston giving his "sweetheart" (That's what he calls her) a kiss. I guess Jason didn't want to be left out so he followed Langston's lead and snuck in a little kiss as well. (I think he kind of likes her)
We went out to eat at the Pasta Factory to celebrate, and the kids got in some swim time after at Jason's dad's condos pool with Grandpa, Danica, and Jason while Amie, Mazin and I went shopping at the outlets.
Then we met up with Dale's sister and brother-in-law, Doug and Donna Brady, in Mesquite, NV. We hit the buffett at the Eureka Hotel and Casino. It was probably one of the better buffets I've had. They had seafood and a great assortment of other salads and dishes. We had a great time eating and visiting and even visiting some more out in the parking lot. Doug and Donna are too fun to be around, we just had to linger a bit longer.
We got back to the hotel quite late but not so late that Aunt Danica couldn't read the kids a bedtime story before going to bed. We all slept in and then after breakfast the next morning the kids got in some more swim time at the hotel pool for some more fun in the sun before we checked out.
Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) had their annual Alumni game in Sandy, UT so Dale and I decided to go support her and cheer her on from the sidelines. It was fun seeing some of the gals she played with five years ago. We even got to see her make a goal!
After the game Dale and I ate at The House of India and then we met Danica and Jason at the Utah REAL vs the Philadelphia UNION soccer game. REAL even pulled out the win 1-0. It was a great way to spend a sunny Saturday, after all of the cold and rain we'd had earlier.
We got a call from Danica the next day (Sunday). Jason asked her to marry him!! They went up to the Snow Basin area on his motorcycle and then went for a walk on a trail near there. They stopped at this lookout area and he got down on his knee and popped the question. She said. "YES"! Jason had asked Dale if he could marry her while we were in St. George for her graduation. The ring was being custom made and took longer to get it back.
Danica was pretty excited about the whole thing. Jason will be a welcome addition to the family. We're happy for them. Hmmm, Danica Hassell, she'll still have her initials as D.H. I like that ;)

Garrett and Zandra mixed up their family a bit by adding Luke Garrett Hansen to the family., weighing in at 7 lbs. 10 oz. and 21 inches. Zandra's mom was there to help watch Jorie while she was in the hospital so that helped out. Aren't moms the best?
Everything went great! Garrett is glad his family will carry on the Hansen name, and Jorie totally adores her little brother!
Six days later Zandra celebrated her birthday. We headed south and took a birthday dinner to them and enjoyed the cuddles, hugs and smiles we got from them. We are blessed. Ten adorable grandkids to call ours. Wow!!
Andrew headed back to work in Virginia 2 weeks after Arwyn was born, but he made the most of his time while he was home bonding with the kids.
Andrew knows how to get Nora to laugh. She's ticklish!!
Andrew doing his job in Tiny, Virginia.
I'm sure it was hard on both of them, but Lindsay and the kids managed pretty good. I helped out in the mornings and evenings some as well as Grandma Leslie (Nora's biological great-grandma that lives by them). The kids were a help as well. Having two babies 5 months apart keeps you busy alright.
They found time to get out and play a little as well. Having a play area close by helps.
Titan got a reading award at school and got to Rock the Halls. Those that got the award got to run through the halls of the school. He loved being able to do that. Way to Go Titan!!
For Mother's Day weekend Dale and I met up in Chubbuck, ID and hopped in with the Mallory crew. We went to Idaho Falls and went to the Idaho Falls Temple Open House. Our church did some remodeling on the inside of the temple. What a beautiful building! The peace our temple brings and the beauty of each one warms my heart.
We had fun watching her and the other kids. Brought back memories of my days when I did some of those kinds of moves.
They both had great teachers and did great in school. They'll be moving onto 3rd and 6th grade next year. Way to go guys! Wow, how time flies!!
Matt got into the act and put on a robe and helped at Oakley's High School graduation as well. It's kind of a big deal when you get the honor of donning a graduation gown and you're not graduating. He's looking pretty distinguished I'd say. Pretty neat Matt!
Langston finished up his first year of "official" Pre-school. (Mom wasn't his teacher). He LOVED being big enough to go to school too, even if it was only two days a week. He's got another year before he starts Kindergarten (he'll be one of the older ones in his class) so he'll probably get in another round of pre-school which I'm sure he won't mind.
Amie's coaching Kennlyn's recreational girl's softball team again and Kennlyn's doing great! She's hitting the ball and scoring for the team. She's also been learning the ropes of the infield positions and has caught on great there too. We may have a softball star in the family. WAY TO GO Kennlyn!!
To mix things up a bit more for the Mallory Matt applied for a counseling job for the Cache School District and be had an interview. Pretty exciting!! Maybe we'll get the Mallory's to Cache Valley! That would be awesome for us!! We wish him the best!!
Nate and Kim got away and went to Bellevue, WA where Nate did a presentation for WSPMA. They've been checking out places to decide where they want to plant when he gets done with his residency next month as well, by traveling to Oregon and Colorado, some areas in Washington and more close to home in Seattle. Time will tell.
They have grown to love the Seattle area and all that it has to offer. The view of the Puget Sound from where they live gives them a great view and some fun in the water as well.
Nate loves the outdoors and there are a variety of great trails to run on. He hit up the area around Mt. Washington in the Cascades area with his running buddy, Meru.
He is also liked at work and enjoys the variety of work he does. I'd say he's fitting into the Dr. Hansen image pretty fine.
To celebrate Kim's birthday, Nate took Kim out on the town. They headed into the big city and enjoyed their time together. Happy Birthday Kim! One year older and wiser too!

Dale mixed it up a bit and headed to San Antonio, TX for a conference for work, the day after we got back from St. George. He was able to do a little sight seeing (The Alamo and the Texas version of the Space needle) and also got to go to a show that Jay Leno put on for those attending the conference. Lucky guy, huh?
I wasn't invited to go to this conference with him so I stayed home and planted the area behind our fire pit and on the side of our sand volleyball court. Andrew was a saint and came and helped me out a few times as well. When Dale helped he seemed to get the holes that had the big rocks in them. I guess that's what he gets for leaving me home maybe? Dale put in a drip water system as well. After 29 years we're finally getting the last bit of the yard landscaped. It's going to look SO good when we get it all done!!
I finished up my DIBELS testing so I couldn't think of a better way to spend my free time! I also got all of our pots for the back porch planted. What a good feeling.
Danica and Jason came and had dinner with us for Mother's Day. We also had Dale's mom and dad and my Aunt Vonda come to dinner. It was a good day. I sure miss my sweet mom even more at times like this though. Love ya, mom!
The Sunday before Memorial Day we picked up Aunt Vonda and took her around with us to visit the graves. While we were out we ran into Danny and Terry and were able to visit with them. I belong to and come from some pretty good stock. We stopped and visited Dale's folks after we dropped Aunt Vonda off. I love all of those that have gone on before me and for all they have done.
On Memorial Day Danica came up from Ogden. We met up with Danny and Terry for the Hyde Park Lions Memorial Day breakfast at the Civic Center. It's tradition! We had a good visit and a great start to the day. Then Danica and I headed out to check out some venues for her wedding while Dale worked in the yard. Danica left after lunch and then I helped Dale get the drip system in the backyard.
The weather ended up being pretty decent after we had the rough start and we had some pretty awesome sunsets, so to end my May Mixer I'm posting one of our beautiful sunsets. May has been quite the month, but we're all healthy and happy and that's what matters.
