We had two family weddings this month on Dale's side of the family.
Bryan's oldest daughter, McKelle, got married to Michael Turley in the Logan Temple. She made a beautiful bride, and they make a beautiful couple.
Then Dale's youngest sister, Shari, had her second oldest daughter, Morgan, get married. She got married in California and then did a Open House in Salt Lake 3 weeks later. Mr. and Mrs. Bryce Youngdale, beautiful.
We celebrated Garrett's 26th birthday this month as well. They went to Bear Lake for the Labor Day weekend with us. The guys went on a Razor ride, we played games and went fishing. Garrett and Dad were catching fish left and right. Great day for them. We also rented a pedal cart and took it for a jaunt around the area. Garrett thoroughly enjoyed his birthday activities.
Zandra also threw Garrett a surprise party for his big day. All of his "home buddies" made it. I think he has some pretty loyal friends.
I helped sing in a choir for a fundraiser for the English Language Center. The choir consisted of students that were from India, Mexico, Taiwan, Peru, and Africa to name a few of the places. It was a great experience rubbing shoulders with some great people from many walks of the earth. I think I'll look into volunteering at the ELC in the near future. (In the picture, I'm on the back row, wearing the orange shirt and gray pants facing the other way ;)
Lindsay hosted a baby shower for Zandra. It was well attended by family and friends and she got some nice things. I gave them a levi baby quilt that had a rocking horse on it that my mom, Garrett's Grandma Petersen, had made. Then Garrett's baby quilts that both of his grandmas had made for him, as well as a cuddle quilt that I made for baby Hansen. A lot of love went into that gift.
That same day Dale, Garrett and I went to the Petersen Reunion. My brother, Kim, was in charge of it. It was held at the Lion's Park in Hyde Park. Kathy, Kim's wife, had us play some fun games and we ate and visited.
We didn't have a very big group, but we still had a good time.
We honored Dad and Mom's birthdays, which are this month, as well. They will always hold a special place in our hearts and memories.
Dale and I hosted our annual neighborhood/friend get-together in our backyard. We ended up having around 75 attend again this year! We also met some of the new neighbors that have moved into the area. We live in a great area, among some great people. I love it here in Hyde Park.
At the end of the month, we headed northwest and visited our Oakley, ID kids. We were able to watch both Kennlyn and Jaxson play in their soccer games.
Kennlyn stopped a goal playing goalie for us in her game and Jaxson ended up scoring a hat trick (3 goals) for us in his game! Amie helps coach both teams and Matt fills in when needed. We had fun cheering them on from the sidelines.
We took the Razor and 4-wheeler with us and went on a ride up into the Sawtooth National Forest area. While on our ride we saw a big bull moose just off the side of the road.
Dale and I also went to church with the Mallory's and saw Jaxson and Kennlyn participate in their wards Primary Program that they did for Sacrament Meeting. They both had their parts memorized and sang their little hearts out. The program was very touching. When they sang the closing song, I Know My Savior Lives, it really touched me as well as others in the congregation. There were a lot of teary eyes after that song.
Andrew started soloing with the saw this month. He did pretty good, but did get the blade caught up in the tree for a little bit. He's learning and loving his job. He's also learning about banana spiders and poison oak. He had a run in with both of them. Not good, poor guy was itching pretty good for awhile.
One thing Andrew enjoys about his job is when he's home, he's home, and he makes the most of it by spending time with Lindsay, the kids and family. Dale, Garrett and Andrew went on a motorcycle ride around Bear Lake and then came back going around the lake and through Immigration Canyon, then through Preston,ID and home. The Wild Hogs have risen!!
Andrew took Lindsay and the kids to check out Antelope Island for a day trip. They ended up not staying real long there though because the flies were so bad. They saw bison and a beautiful sunset over the Great Salt Lake though.
They also went with us over to Porcupine Dam, past Avon, UT for a Family Home Evening activity. We stopped and got some pizza and breadsticks and went and saw the end of the salmon run.
It was pretty neat to see the salmon keep on swimming upstream. The area was so green and pretty too. The lesson we learned from this was to keep on swimming. Don't give up and you'll get where you want to go eventually. The salmon go back to where they were hatched to lay their eggs and then die though. Kind of a sad deal, but pretty amazing.
Danica's soccer season is in full swing, but she's sitting on the bench during games this season because she's red-shirting. She posted this quote with her team on the field.
"The reason most people never achieve their dreams is because they simply give up. Life was never meant to be easy- it is a constant struggle, with extreme lows and extreme highs. Remember that the times when it is most important to persevere are the times that you will be most tested."
I think she nailed our FHE message and her feelings about this season.....sitting on the bench has been hard for her, but she knows what's in store next year and the wait will be worth it.
Danica also got to see and visit with her old Infinity Club team soccer coach, Jeff Ginn. He's been a big supporter of hers and never gave up on helping her fulfill her dream. He's working with REAL soccer now.
Classes are going good for her and she's still improving in her art. What a talent she's developing.
Danica is also doing better at cooking! She sent me a picture of the breakfast she made for herself. I was impressed, it's a lot better than a bowl of cereal and more healthy. Keep it up Danica!
I didn't get an up-date on Nate and Kim, but I do know they're both alive and I'm sure they're both working hard and getting in some outdoor time when they can.
I ended the month by making up 4 batches of homemade raspberry freezer jam. I forgot how long that takes, but it was all worth it. The freezer shelves are full again. Life is good.
