February Feats

I'm calling this February Feats because I feel like we had a lot of remarkable accomplishments this month.

To start off with we got a good dumping of much needed snow and then rain and more snow and rain. All this with days of warmth and sunshine as well. So, weather wise, it was a great month!

The local ice rink at Merlin Olsen Park stayed open the longest it has for a long time. Garrett and Zandra had Danica take some pictures of them on the ice before it melted.

Garrett  got a job at Catalyst in Brigham City. It's a boys home that helps troubled youth to turn their lives around. He's enjoying the challenge and getting to know the boys.

Dale had a bond sale that he and some other school board members went to in San Francisco and I tagged along. It was a quick trip and the spouses of the other board members went as well, so we saw some of the sights while the guys were in meetings. We rode the trolley car and checked out Fisherman's Warf in the rain. We then caught up with the guys and walked down Lombard Street to go to dinner one night. You know, San Francisco is not flat---we got a good work out in while there!

Dale and I figured that if we were this close to our Oakland kids that we'd make sure we got to see them. So the morning before we headed out we rode the Bart into Oakland and Nate picked us up. He took us to their apartment and as we were waiting for the gate to go up to go in a guy on the side of the road told Nate he had a flat tire! Good thing we were close to home! We got that changed and met up with Kim and saw their place and visited a bit. Then we went to breakfast and visited some more and found out what they've been up to.

Nate's feat was surviving life in a suitcase for 3 months. He also survived his externships and went to Frisco, Texas where he had interviews with 12 programs. He was called back to interview with two of them so he felt good about that. He'll find out March 20th where he'll be doing his intership. He also passed his
Board II exams and is relieved that's all behind him.
Kim's feat was surviving without Nate for 3 months, working two jobs, and managing the apartments alone.
She did get in a trip each month to at least spend a weekend with Nate.

It was great seeing them and catching up! They took us to the airport to catch our flight home. We will be hoping for a place closer for his internship assignment! On their way home they ended up getting another flat! (Their other car!) Hope they have a good tire repair shop close by :)

Dale and I celebrated Valentines Day for three days!! The ward had a Adult Valentines Dinner where the youth served us a tasty meal and then Dale sang some love songs in a barbershop quartet with Josh and Lindsay Bennion and Rob Castleton. They sounded pretty good too!
Then on Valentines Day Dale and I went to dinner with our friends, Floyd and Allison Griffiths and Shannon and Lori Follett. We came to our house and visited after. It's always good to be in good company. The next day Dale and I went to my brother, Larry's, house for a dinner with my siblings and their spouses. We had all there but Tanya, Greg and Janet. Craig got up early in Cape Town, Africa (where he and Janet are serving a mission for the church)and skyped with us. It was good to catch up with him. He looks great.
What a remarkable feat it was to feel loved for three days straight in three different ways!

The Winter Olympics kicked off this month and so for President's Day we decided to go see a real live hockey game. The Mallory's met Dale, Danica and I in Brigham City and we all piled in their van and went to see the Utah Grizzles take on the Idaho Steelheads in West Jordan, UT at the Maverick Center. It was fun to see a live game. They even won!

We went to a family fun center, Hollywood Connection, after and rode the carousel, the bumper cars, played the arcade, went roller skating, did some miniature golfing and rode on a bus ride. It was fun and the kids loved it!

Thanks Matt, Amie and kids for the fun, full day!

Danica, her friend Tre' and I left early the following Sat. and watched Jaxon play in two basketball games. He's got the idea of the game and is a great team player. Plays well on offense and defense. Both of the teams he plays on are undefeated so far. Not bad I'd say.

We noticed another feat that Jaxson made while we were at the game. He lost two more teeth!! The tooth fairy has been busy visiting his bedroom lately :)

Andrew's clan had a few feats this month as well. For starters, Andrew filled up his first log book. That shows how much flying he's been getting in. Way to go Andrew! Many more to come!

Their cute little Eloise turned ONE this month!

She's still not walking alone yet, but does walk around the furniture and fixtures. Titan better be ready though because soon she'll be chasing him around.
Lindsay's mom was able to visit them and share in El's birthday as well. We called and sang and skyped. (The next best to being there)

Danica had a couple of big feats as well. She signed a letter of intent to play soccer for the University of Texas at Permian Basin. Her plan is to major in Art with an emphasis on Graphic Design and play soccer for the next two years. UTPB is a smaller university, kind of like SUU in Cedar City. They gave her the best scholarship and they have a good art program so I guess it was a good fit.

Her other feat was that she got her tonsils out! She's the first one in the whole family to have this done. Dale and I even still have our tonsils! I got to watch the surgery live (in another room, on a TV screen)and talk to the doctor and hear his comments. It was kind of neat to see. Dr. Wood said she'll do a lot better not having those  tonsils in causing havoc. They were quite big!

I guess Dale and I's feat was making it through another month!
