May Magic

Locally we finally got our National Utah Hockey League team an official name. Here's what an article shared about it : "Smith Entertainment Group (SEG) revealed the new name and permanent identity of Utah's NHL franchise, the Utah Mammoth. More than 10,000 years ago, herds of mammoth claimed Utah as their home and, ever since, the mammoth has embodied strength, momentum and an earth-shaking presence-qualities that are brough to life by the passion of Utah's hockey fans and that mirror the franchise's bold emergence into the NHL. In a process driven by the community, the Utah Mammoth name was chosen by fans during a 13-month process involving four rounds of fans voting and more than 850,000 votes".

"The Mountain Mammoth logo captures the fierce power of the mammoth mid-charge, tusks up, and ready to attack. Within the mark are the nods to the state including the Wasatch Mountain Range and snow-capped peaks that form the beast's crown; the shape of the Utah, which is subtly embedded in the mountain silhouette; and the curved tusk to for a bold "U".

For their first season of play in the NHL they had 38 wins, 31 losses, and 13 overall total losses. They also came in 11th place in league play. Not bad for a new team. Go Mammoths!

We also got a new Catholic Pope, due to Pope Francis' passing: Cardinal Robert Prevost has been elected as the first US-born pontiff and will be known as Pope Leo XIV, Leo made his first remarks as pope from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica in front of tens of thousands of onlookers, calling for peace and paying tribute to the late Pope Francis.

Leo, a 69-year-old from Chicago, is a leader with global experience. He spent much of his career as a missionary in South America and holds dual citizenship in the US and Peru, where he served as a Bishop. He most recently led a powerful Vatican office for bishop appointments. He is expected to build on Pope Francis’ reforms. The pope’s election prompted an outpouring of congratulations from world leaders, who expressed eagerness to work with the pontiff on global issues. US President Donald Trump called the historic selection a great honor for the country.

The Hassell's invited Dale and I to join them in St. George for a weekend. We headed out early and went to the recently remodeled and rededicated St. George Temple and did a session before meeting up them at Jason's mom's St. George house. This temple was the first temple to be built in Utah, due to the Salt Lake temple taking so long to build. It's beautiful inside and out and a place for peace and the spirit to dwell. We were able to go see a sealing room and go up to the Assembly room as well.

                                                                    Baptismal Font                                           Instruction Room
                           Sealing Room                                                          Assembly Room

We went to the Thunder Junction Park, did the Scout Cave hike, walked on the Virgin River trail, hit a bucket of golf balls, had good food and good company. It was a nice weekend. Thanks Jason, Danica, June and Brooks for letting us join in on some fun.

Dale and I went to dinner in Preston with my brothers; Craig, Larry, Kim, Danny and their spouses, and Tanya for our annual Siblings dinner. With DeAnn living in South Carolina, it makes it a bit harder for her to make the trip. We missed her and Steve. It was good to get together with them and catch up. Thanks Danny & Terry for pulling us together.

I helped clean the Logan Temple, served in the Youth Center and did an initiatory session. I wnet to dinner with some of my friends and to my Emotional Resilience class all month. Dale took our neighbor, Dave Rayfield to a Ward Priesthood commemorate activity at Camp Lomia up Logan Canyon. We also went to our wards Empty Nester Dinner, one of Junes's T-ball games and to June's Dance recital and dinner with the Hassell''s.

We also took Luke on his Birthday date. He wanted to go shopping for a special Nerf rapid fire gun that looked like a machine gun and then we ate at Burley Burger. He loves their shakes and fries. Happy Birthday Luke!!

We also watched Andrew & Lindsay's kids while they spent some alone time in Hawaii.

The kids were still in school so we stayed at their house on the weekdays and then our house on the weekend.
I took Elosie and Arwyn to their gymnastics and got to watch them for a bit. They're getting pretty good!

For Memorial Day we met the Mallory's at the Hyde Park Civic Center for their famous breakfast and then went kayaking in the Benson Marina area and after had pizza at their house and played games.
We had put flowers on the graves earlier with them and then had a hot dog & marshmallow roast here with them and Lindsay and the kids (Andrew was out on his work tour, working in Alabama).

Towards the end of the month we watched June and Brooks while Jason & Danica went on an European Cruise with Jason's mom, stepdad, and siblings to celebrate his mom's retirement.  A much needed break for both of them, and some great family time with extended family.

Day 1 and 2 of their trip -- Flew to Rome and toured the area

While they were touring Rome, we were painting caterpillars, playing in the sand, swinging, making lady bugs and Gnomes, making Christmas trees out of play dough, and picking up pine cones with June and Brooks.

Nate and Diana are still working on getting their house fixed up as well as running the Hansen Foot & Ankle office. Diana also got to get out in the helicopter for a bit to keep her skills up on how to handle those in need of medical assistance in hard to reach places.

They can't keep her grounded too long!!

The Mallory's kept busy with Matt & Amie coaching sports, and Matt's Kindness Night that they do after his Kindness Week.

Kennlyn's indoor soccer team                           Langston's soccer team
                                                                                           Mazin's soccer team

Kennlyn got asked to go to her school's Sr. Prom dance. She's not a little girl anymore, I guess.

Matt and Amie do get to spend some time together when they can. They were able to go to a RSL game together.

The Elementary school that Langston and Mazin go to has a fire truck come and they do a big "hose down" activity to cool off their hot students. Sounds like it was a big splash!!
The kids at the school that Matt works at met their end of  year goal so Matt and Principal Robbins had to color their hair red for the day. What some great kids and great sports.
The end of a school year is always a party isn't it? Next year Amie & Matt will have 3 kids in 3 different schools!

Elder Mallory's been keeping busy. He's dealing with heat more, but surviving. He was able to go fishing a couple of times with one of the guys he's been teaching. He caught a catfish, and tied in a teaching analogy with the gospel. I'd like of heard that one. The second time out they didn't catch anything, but saw an alligator and while they were fishing the guy told them that he wanted to be baptized. Maybe his fishing analogy story got that guy thinking.
He's had some more baptisms and because of his efforts with that guy he's got 3 other people he's working with to teach.

Andrew & Lindsay's crew took a quick trip to St. George to finalize on the plans and financing so that they can get their new home started there. They checked out to red rock and got in a hike as well as a feel for the heat that St. George can have. Family time is always the best time though isn't it?

Garrett's family celebrated both Luke's and Zandra's birthdays. Luke had a pool party and Garrett treated Zandra to a nice night out. They also hosted a birthday dinner to celebrate. They know how to party! Happy Birthday Luke and Zandra!! We love you!

For Lukes's birthday a neighbor friend took Luke and Jorie for a airplane ride. Now  that's one very nice neighbor isn't it? Not everyone gets to be in the clouds for their birthday.

Jorie got accepted onto a competitive gymnastics team that is in Woods Cross. Zandra's on the road a lot more taking her to her practices, but I'm sure her practice will pay off in the end.

Both Jorie and Luke had their Spring piano recital and Jorie participated in a school program and was able to play some of the instruments during it. They both also got awards at the end of school.

Where Zandra is the school's PTSA President this year, Zandra was involved with Teacher Appreciation and did up Appreciation bags for all the Teachers in the school. She was also great at helping out the school any way she could.. The teachers and school has had a pretty great year thanks to her efforts and planning. I'm sure she was looking forward to school getting out just as much as the kids were.

The Hassell's experienced their first Pre-school graduation by having June graduate. She's loved going to class. Let's hope her love for learning continues.

Danica and Jason went to dinner and the Post Malone concert with Jason's siblings to celebrate his dad's birthday. Steve (Jason's dad) loves Post Malones music. Dale and I tended the kids for their night out, so it was a win, win situation.

They also went on that European cruise which we'll talk about next month because they boarded the ship on Day 3 of their trip.

In other more local and news in the USA -- Locally we've had quite a few fires this early already. There is a fire that is burning in the Dixie National Forest, in the Garfield area, which hasn't been contained yet.
There were at least 25 people killed from tornadoes that hit down in Kentucky and Missouri.
From a new article: Deadly tornadoes leave trail of destruction in Kentucky and Missouri: An unstable spring weather system spawned tornadoes overnight in the U.S. Midwest and Ohio, River Valley, killing at least 25 people in Kentucky and Missouri and causing widespread damage to homes and property.

I want to end on a happier note, so I'm doing my shout out to the wonderful Mom's in my life! I sure have been blessed with one of the best. I love  you Mom. Happy Heavenly Mother's Day.! You hold a big part of my heart.
