I called this month Anxious April due to the fact that the weather has been teasing us that Spring might be around the corner and then we get snow or rain. So, I've been anxious for it to make up its mind. Finally, around the 3rd week of the month we got more days with warmer temps and only small rainstorms, which gave me hope for Spring. I even got out and got some work done in the flower beds!!
Dale, and the Mallory crew started off the month by going skiing at Beaver Mountain. Yep, there was enough snow to get in some skiing. No April Fool's either. They had a nice time and were glad they got the runs in before Beaver closed for the season due to warmer temps and rain.
I started off the month by serving in the Logan Temple's Youth Center. I helped watch a cute 9 month old boy who was so happy. He hardly made a peep the whole time. The ward his parents live in helped them get to the temple to be sealed together as a family. It was a very touching experience for all. I also was able to fit in an endowment session with our ward Relief Society and do some initiatory work this month. I love serving in the temple and helping those on the other side of the veil obtain the blessings that can be achieved through the temple endowment. Our Smithfield Temple is getting closer to opening next spring. What a blessing it will be for our area.
Dale and I were able to go see the "Champions of Magic" show at the Eccles Theater. Talk about mind boggling! They were disappearing, getting cut in half, escaping from the jaws of death while hanging upside down and making things disappear just to name a few. It was a great show.
I also ushered the shows "The Aunties" (stories about American Indian women) and "Shrek - The Musical". a couple of times at the Eccles. Two different styles, but informative and good entertainment.
While talking about shows, Dale and I went and saw three parts of a season called "The Last Supper" of "The Chosen" on the big screen. We went with our friends, Bruce & Lottie Anderson, for one and then together for the other two. The Chosen tells the story of Christ and makes his life come alive. The shows we watched started with Good Friday and ended with Christ praying in the grove of trees and then being taken by the soldiers to be put on trial. Very worth watching! This is probably the most movies we've watched in a year on the big screen, and we watched them all within the month of Easter.
We had General Conference this month as well. Pres Nielsen was only present and talked during the last session. He's 100 yrs. old! Still gets around some, but not as much as he used to since he fell about 1 1/2 yrs. ago. In his talk, he announced 15 more temples to be built around the world.
They are as follows: Reynosa, Mexico; Chorrillos, Peru; Rivera, Uruguay; Campo Grande, Brazil; Porto, Portugal; Uyo, Nigeria; San Jose del Monte, Philippines; Noumea, New Caledonia; Liverpool, Australia; Caldwell, Idaho; Flagstaff, Arizona; Rapid City, South Dakota; Greenville, South Carolina; Norfolk, Virginia; and Spanish Fork, Utah. He said: "We are grateful to the Lord for the acceleration of temple-building in recent years".
Pres. Nielsen has announced 200 temples since he became President and Prophet of the Church in 2018. He then said: "I testify that Jesus Christ, the Redeemer of Israel, leads His Church. He is preparing to come again. May we likewise prepare to receive Him."
His announcement brings the total number of temples operating, under construction, or announced -- to 382.
What an amazing man he his. I love his words of wisdom, his love for others, for God the Father and his Son, and his example of goodness just to name a few of his wonderful traits.
Dale and I hosted an event at the Cache Valley Humanitarian Center, where we serve weekly, for our ward Empty Nester group. We had a great turn-out and all had a nice time visiting and preparing the bags or weaving the plastic bag chains from grocery bags, for making sleeping mats for the homeless, or those in need.
With April being the birthday month for Dale and I, we went to lunch at Lann Thai with Amie, Danica, June & Brooks for Dad's birthday, and then then we went to The Rusty Spoon, in Perry, UT for a brunch for my birthday with Amie, Andrew, Garrett, Danica, June & Brooks (we missed Nate, but he lives a bit too far just to make a brunch date). We also got a call from our missionary in Mexico, Elder Jaxson Mallory, so he got in the picture too.
I turned 65, so I got to officially order from the Senior Menu to honor my age. Time flies when you're having fun!! We've got some pretty good kids.
Happy Birthday to Dale and I! Here's to another year!!
We hosted our annual Easter Picnic and Easter Egg hunt at our house again this year. It was a bit chilly, so we didn't eat outside, but we did have the egg hunt outside. We missed Nate & Diana and Amie's crew, but those there enjoyed the day. We made a Easter Lily bouquet out of paper and went on a seek & find Easter Hunt this year. However, I didn't get many pictures this year though.
Nate and Diana have been anxious to get back out in the mountains and found some time between storms in their area.
They've also been using their spare time to get more remodeling done in their new home. They got the kitchen cabinets and sink in, so they almost have a complete kitchen done now. They are getting closer to having the place all fixed up. They still need some cabinet doors hung and some of their appliances, but they're coming. I'm looking forward to seeing the whole remodel when we visit in June.
The Mallory's got basketball all done. Mazin's team took 1st in the Smithfield League tournament. Matt is the assistant coach, Brandon Birch is the head-coach (he played basketball for USU in his day) and his boy is on the team. They've done well. Way to go guys!
Kennlyn, Langston and Mazin started up competitive soccer. Rain or shine they're fine playing out on the field. No rest for this crew. Good luck on you season.
Matt got busy and did some tree trimming in their yard as well as cutting down a couple of trees and getting the stump out. While trimming he had the tree get the best of him and he got pretty scratched up. Luckily his glasses protected his eyes, but he ended up needing to get new glasses because of it.
They also got busy and put in raised garden boxes in the back of their yard. One of the reasons they took out a couple of trees to give their backyard more sunlight. Good luck on the gardening adventure. I'm sure their efforts will bring tasty dividends.
With a grandson out in the mission field we anxiously await receiving news from Elder Mallory. We learned he's had a zone conference; and that he got quite sick and ended up finding out he had gotten Dengue fever. One of his friends that is also serving in another Mexico mission got it as well. It put him down for about a week (during Easter time), but he got through it.
He's been working with families and is hoping to have more come to Church. He bore his testimony that He knows that Christ rose from the tomb, and that he lives and did so many things for the will of the Father and was the perfect example for everyone. Then he said: "I love Jesucristo"!
The pictures are from his zone conference, and with his zone bros, and the missionaries he serves with. It's good knowing he's helping to make a difference in people's lives.
Dale and I took Arwyn on an early birthday date. She wanted to go eat at Pizza Pie Cafe and go see the movie "King of Kings". She turned 8 this month! Happy Birthday Arwyn!!
Andrew got a bit anxious when he learned that the restaurant, Stonefire, he's a co-owner in was featured in the local "Hometown" magazine. It was a nice write up about their place. I hope it helps more people try it out.
Garrett's crew started out the month still in Italy. They were able to see Venice and ride in a gondola, see some more sights and then head home. What a memorable trip for them. Hearing about it made me anxious to go to Italy! Someday, hopefully.
Jorie was anxious to get home because she was preforming in a musical her school put on - "The 101 Dalmations, the Musical". She was one of three playful terrier dogs that did acrobats and sang. It was a cute, family fun production. We took some of Andrew's kids, Titan, Nora, and Arwyn with us to help out Lindsay, because she wasn't feeling well so Eloise stayed home to be with her because Andrews on his work tour.
Jorie also got picked to be the Student of the Month at her school. Way to Go Jorie!!
Dale and I were able to go watch Luke play in one of his soccer games. He's loving being back on the field, and we're glad we are able to catch some of his games. Luckily we had a nice evening for watching his game. We went to another one and it rained the whole time!!
Jason and Danica invited Dale and I to meet them at "The American West Heritage Center" in Wellsville for Baby Animal Days. The kids liked seeing the baby animals and seeing the pigs, ducks, calves, bunnies, and riding the train. The weather turned out nice for it too. A win, win day.
We also got to go watch June play in a soccer game. She had a good run dribbling the ball for a bit to show off her skills for us. It was fun to watch her determination. Don't you love those bright pink soccer cleats? Go June!
Jason and Danica got top treatment from Guild Mortgage for his hard work and were sent on an all expense paid trip to the Island of Nevis in the Caribbean Sea area. They enjoyed good food, the sunshine, and time on the beach.
Remember how I said I was anxious to see if we'd see more Spring days? Well, we did! Dale was even able to thatch the lawn and get all the dead grass out of it. We did have some cooler days and some rain, but that's part of Spring, right? The flowers are blooming and the trees have blossoms, and the birds are chirping and the snow is melting on the mountains. Spring is officially here, yahoo!!
