We started out the month in Bear Lake, but left for a night and part of a day so that Dale could do his service in the Logan Temple and so that I could join the Mallory's at the Logan temple to do baptisms for the dead with all their kids that could do baptisms (Mazin will be able to in a couple of years).
It was heartwarming seeing Jaxson baptize his brother and sister, mom and dad, and he also baptized me. You could see a light in Langston's eyes when he was able to be a witness for the baptisms with me or others in our group. Dale was serving in the temple that morning, and was able to slip away during a break he had and come to the font area and serve as a witness with Langston as well. We also did confirmations and Jaxson was able to preform the blessing on us. There was a good feeling in the room. I was glad I could be there with them.
We headed back over the mountain and then the Hassell's. Mallory's and Andrew and Lindsay and their kids joined us at different times for the 4th of July weekend. Some for the fireworks, some for the Parade and the patriotic program in the tabernacle in Paris, ID, some for boating in the Hassell's boat, and some for beach time. It was a fun full week.
And of course the guys got in some fishing......and it looks like it paid off for some. I was able to make it to some of the Hadfield Family Reunion this year. The only living child of William and Grace Hadfield is my Uncle Max, and his spouse, Marie. It was Elden's family that hosted the reunion held at Adam's Park in Logan, UT.
I'm sure they'll be doing these reunions as long as Max is still alive. He turned 100 yrs. recently, so time will tell. It was good to see cousins I haven't seen for quite some time.
Uncle Elden's family Uncle Max & Aunt Marie
My brother, Danny & Toni Hadfield Platt--Uncle Ronald's boys, Dale and Claire
Uncle Elden's daughters Nancy, Me, Susan, and Cindy, Uncle Norman's daughter Judy Hadfield Sorenson, and my Uncle Dean's daughter & cousin, Sheila Hadfield Lundgren's husband, Sterling,
July is The Logan Festival of Opera's season so I ushered the shows Guys & Dolls, Cats, Anything Goes, and Gianni Schicchi/Buoso's Ghost for it this year. Dale preformed in Guys & Dolls in high school, and I put on his make-up, and helped with scenery, so I made sure he got to see that one. Their was a good variety this year and some I'd never seen.
Dale and I celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary by going to the temple and doing sealings and then going out to dinner. A great reminder of what our big day entailed. Happy Anniversary to us!
It wouldn't be summer if Dale doesn't get in some fishing. He went with our neighbor Dave a few times and once with my nephew, Adam Petersen, this month and as well.
We also held our annual Neighborhood Dutch Oven meal by doing up Dutch Oven BBQ chicken and ribs, a tossed salad, rolls and a drink with those that attended bringing different sides. We had around 50-60 here, so not as many as last year, but still not bad.
Nate and Diana attempted to climb Mt. Olympus, but at the top they got into a lot of loose rock so decided to head back and try another time. Here's there story--
They also headed to Lake Crescent and spent some time there one weekend as well.
To fill up another weekend, they hiked up their last volcano. Glacier Peak......
They also got word that they received a pretty cool award. Here's what they shared on Instagram about it. Pretty awesome!!
And they got a new doctor hired. She'll be working in the office to help with the load. They are very excited about that. We hope all works out well for everybody. Congrats on both of these accomplishments!
They've been married 3 yrs. at the end of the month. With all they've been through in these 3 years, I'd say it was a match made in heaven. Happy Anniversary Nate & Diana! They spent the last weekend of the month on their sailboat, did some crabbing and soaked in the sun.
The Mallory's celebrated and shed a few tears this month---Matt celebrated his birthday. Happy Birthday Matt!! Keep staying cool!
In preparation for Jaxson's mission, Jaxson was ordained to be an Elder last month in the Priesthood of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He started home MTC for two weeks and then had his mission farewell and was set apart to be a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for two years.
He entered the Provo MTC and is learning the language more and the ways of a mission. We wish him the best. He also left for Mexico after two weeks in the MTC.
Dale and I took Andrew & Lindsay's oldest, Titan, out for a birthday date. They officially have a teenager now!! Hard to believe he's 13! Titan chose to go miniature golfing and out to eat at Kentucky Fried Chicken to celebrate with us. He even got a hole in one to celebrate his big day!!
Happy Birthday Titan! Make this your best year yet!
Garrett pulled his friend Mike McKnight and his dad, along with Dale together and they rode their motorcycles to Jackson Hole and back for a ride.
He's also been riding a road bike and decided to test his endurance by joining in on the Grand Fondo Century Ride. Garrett rode his bike 100 miles and met up with his friend, Mike McKnight's wife, Sara, riding her bike. We met up with him at the end of the race. Great job guys!
They also tried to beat the heat by going to a water event that was hosted by a realtor that his company works with, as well as take their boat out to enjoy some water skiing, tubing and boating.
The Hassell's spent some time at Bear Lake with friends and family and Lake Powell for the Kap Reunion (his mom's side of the family) for some fun in the sun. They know how to do it with kids too.
Being around water is definitely the best way to cool off this month. We've had some record high temperatures with no sign of rain showing in the forecast.
To celebrate Utah's Pioneer Day our town, Hyde Park, does a great fireworks show. The Mallory's joined us on Center Street Square to see them. For a small town we do it right. It was quite impressive and very well attended.
That night someone did their own fireworks in the foothill area to the north of our house. Fireworks are restricted there due to the dry conditions.....well the sparks for the fireworks started a fire on the mountain and the wind pushed it close to some of the homes in the area. The local volunteer fire departments from North Logan and Smithfield showed up to help and were able to get it under control before it got to the homes, but it got pretty close as you can see from the pictures. I hope a lesson was learned for all. Follow the guidelines when it comes to fireworks, they are there for our protection.
The view of where the fire was in Hyde Park from the highway heading to Smithfield. The black area is the burn area.
In world news the Olympics started in Paris, France. The USA is being represented well and hopes to garner a lot of medals. I love watching these athletes shine and see all their hard work pay off. Go team USA!!
Team USA got off to a good start with a lot of medals and some firsts in some sports. We also got the news that the winter Olympics will be coming back to Utah in 2034! I'd say that gives Utah plenty of time to prepare for this big event again!
Pretty exciting news for our state.
With this being a year where we can vote on a new President for the United States, the two candidates that made it through the caucus for the Republican vote was Donald Trump, who was our President four years ago, and Joe Biden our current President who is the pick for the Democrats.
They've been campaigning quite a lot and after a debate between both of them. It was decided by the Democratic Party that maybe Biden should bow down and not run due to his cognitive reasoning. He's 81 yrs. old and has a hard time remembering and speaking without prompts or help.
Well, with the help of his fellow democrats, he decided to step down. This put the Democrat party needing to fill his place soon. It was decided that Kamala Harris, the Vice President would step in to fill that vacancy.

A little closer to home news...... The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints announced this news ....
What a blessing this will be for many to have a medical school of this caliber here in Utah that will have the opportunity to work with the well known University of Utah medical school.
Well that's about all the Jibe I can come up with for this month. It's been a busy one for all.
