We started out the month living in our trailer by the shores of Bear Lake. We took advantage of the last summer holiday and had the Mallory's join us with Garrett's family for Sunday dinner and games. Garrett's crew left and Amie's crew came for the night into the :Labor Day actiities.
Dale and I had bought tickets to the Pickleville Playhouse show "Touble in Hunky Dory" and then we met up with the Mallory's on the beach for some fun in the sun Dale also took the boys out looking for crawdads and we ate and played games. Dale and I left the next day.
I also got in the shows "The Wallin' Jennys", "Tribute to Linda Rondstat", and "Red Hot Chili Peppers", all were very good, but very different. Wallin' Jennys was almost sold out, and the crown got into it. Linda Ronstadt wasn't very well attended and I thought she'd be close to a sell-out. I got a picture after the show of the group. She looks a lot like Linda Rondstat, don't you think? She's the one in the white shirt and she sure sounded a LOT like her as well.
Red Hot Chili Pipers was almost a sell-out and I'd never heard of them. The crowd was very into it, standing and clapping and dancing. Oh the things I learn by ushering at the Eccles Theater.
We were able to catch a couple of soccer games as well as see a rainbow during Mazin's game and it wasn't even raining!! Pretty cool.
Another pretty cool thing is that Amie's playing goalie for Kennlyn's soccer team, so we got to see them both make some pretty awesome moves. Amie's 40 and still has it. Way to go Amie, just be careful out there!!
Dale and I are still serving at the Cache Valley Humanitarian Center and the local newspaper did a nice write-up about it. I was pictured teaching the USU women's gymnastics team how to fold the bags used for making sleeping mats.
I was also on a Tri-City National Day of Service Committee and to remember and pay tribute to those that gave their life on Sept. 11, 2001 when American was attacked due to terrorism.
I worked with representatives fromthe cities of Smithfield, Hyde Park and North Logan. We had the ROTC from USU come and do a falg ceremony and then held a moment of silence and sang The Star-Spangled Banner. Darrin Kowallis, the chairman of the committee also gave a short speech. Then people broke and went to serve at different projects: Fence painting and adding bark around trees in Mac Park; Tying quilts for needs in the valley, and sorting clothes, toys, etc. for kids in Foster Care (which I was over), in Smithfield; cleaning up the ballpark and working on the Shoreline trail in Hyde Park,; cleaning up Kings Park and working on the Shoreline trail, in North Logan. It was well attended and for a good cause. Our efforts paid off! We sure live in a great area.
Dale, Matt, Amie, Langston, Mazin, Kennlyn, Danica, June, Brooks, and I got together and did up some freezer corn for the crew. We also helped out Garrett's crew get some for their freezer. The kids were cute to help as they could and even though it took us two shifts to get it done, we got it all done! Out tummies will be thanking us this winter.
We made our last trip to Sun Outdoors in Bear Lake to spend some time with the Hassell crew and the Mallory crew. With the holidays over and school going it's nice and peaceful. We had a spot with a great view of the beach and the lake.
We played pickleball, went fishing with the kids, went on a razor ride and saw the colorful leaves in the canyon. played games and ate. It was a nice way to end our "trailer time" at Bear Lake.

Nate and Diana were able to get out on the water and take advantage of owning a sailboat. The winds were a bit stronger, but they showed they have what it takes. It's good practice for when they hit the big water.
The Japanese Maple tree they took out of the pot and replanted when we were with them showed them that their efforts pay off. It's alive!! I guess it was pretty thirsty. We wondered how it would turn out.
Nate had a cool thing happen; he saw a post on Facebook that showed a guy holding his snow ski he'd lost when he got caught in the avalanche a while ago. Now if someone could just find Diana's ski she lost while skiing at Beaver Mtn.
They found time to work on some projects for their house. Nate put cement in their front porch area to open it up more so that people can tell where the front door is. I sure hope his efforts pay off. They also got to go see a Mariner's baseball game.
They went on a trail run in the local mountain area and to help fuel them they ate a chocolate bar her dad had sent her from Venezuela for her birthday. She's building up that knee so they can do more in the mountains this fall. Happy Birthday Diana!!!
They're also adjusting to having to be accountable to the company that now runs the office, but also loving having some down time at home not having to do reports etc.
Lili's loving having them home more too.
The Mallory's are doing soccer, soccer and more soccer! However, Elder Mallory is doing God's work and helping share the gospel of Jesus Christ. He's a District leader so he has a lot of meetings and is having success at helping the people in his area in Mexico get baptized. He's truly got the Lord on his side.
Andrew got these pictures while he was in the helicopter working. You can see what a BIG difference that saw makes! Pretty cool.
He also went to Bosie and saw their Stonefire Pizza box on display with one of the vendors at a food services fair.
While they were there they got in some fun in the sun at Sand Hollow and did some trail riding. It won't be too long before they can do these types of things a lot more while living in St. George.
Garrett celebrated his birthday out on the water. He went fishing with Luke and some friends. Then he spent time with his beautiful family. Happy Birthday Garrett!! We love you!!
Danica got the Hassell's into the Fall Spirit by visiting a "pick your own flower patch", a cool sunflower field, and doing other activities with friends and family.
They celebrated their 8th Wedding Anniversary as well. Here's to many more wonderful years together. Happy Anniversary!!!
For local and country news: BLANDING, Utah (KUTV) — A tornado destroyed three homes on the Navajo Nation Reservation south of Blanding, Utah, displacing multiple families.
Officials with the Navajo Police Department confirmed that three homes near Montezuma Creek were "completely damaged" from a tornado that moved through the community Saturday afternoon.
The displaced families were directed to seek shelter at the Montezuma Creek Elementary School, and later placed in nearby hotels.
There were no reports of human injuries, but Navajo police said multiple pets and livestock are missing. Originally, five dogs were reported missing, but after further investigation, officials said there is an unknown number of missing animals.
San Juan County officials said there was "widespread damage to homes, property, and infrastructure" after the tornado touched down in the McCracken Mesa and Cahone Mesa areas.
Officials with the county sheriff's office said two homes, two horse trailers, a hay barn, and a fifth-wheel trailer were all destroyed by the tornado. They said two additional homes were damaged and multiple power poles were downed, causing utility disruptions.
While some power lines have been repositioned, officials said there is still a power outage in the Montezuma Creek community. They did not provide any information on how long the power outage is expected to last.
The San Juan County in Utah had a tornado touch down! Utah rarely has tornados, so this was crazy. Luckily there was no one injured and not much property damage due to it not being in the populated areas.

The Utah Valley University in Orem, UT hosted Charlie Kirk, the founder of a foundation called "Turning Point" that discusses political events and issues to it's campus. They held the event out on a large gathering area on the lawn on campus and during this a gunshot was fired from the roof of a building near the area. It killed Charlie Kirk almost instantly and caused panic among the group attending. Here's what the news said: OREM, Utah (KUTV) — Charlie Kirk, the CEO and co-founder of the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA, was fatally shot at Utah Valley University Wednesday.
FBI Director Kash Patel originally said that a person of interest was taken into custody before 4:20 p.m., but was released by 6 p.m.
"Our investigation continues," he said.
President Donald Trump confirmed Kirk's death on Truth Social.
"The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie," President Trump posted. "He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!"
Kirk was shot at 12:10 p.m. in the quad near the food court. He was allegedly discussing shooting and gang violence at the time.
"We are confirming that he was shot and we are praying for Charlie," said Aubrey Laitsch, public relations manager for Turning Point USA.
Utah Senator Mike Lee posted on X, formerly Twitter, "I am tracking the situation at Utah Valley University closely. Please join me in praying for Charlie Kirk and the students gathered there."
Gov. Cox said he is being briefed by law enforcement.
"Those responsible will be held fully accountable," he said. "Violence has no place in our public life. Americans of every political persuasion must unite in condemning this act. Our prayers are with Charlie, his family, and all those affected. ... We will bring to justice the individual responsible for this tragedy."
Utah Valley University, which is the largest public school in the state, closed for the rest of the day.
Five area schools were placed on lockdown after the incident.
So sad, he was in his early 30's, married and had a young daughter. My heart goes out to all involved and affected by this senseless act of violence. Emotions are running too high on political issues that can and should be able to be worked out by talking about them. Give and take, show respect for others, but don't kill someone!
More on the death of Charlie Kirk : OREM, Utah (KUTV) — The man accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk at UVU was temporarily placed in the Utah County Jail's special housing unit and is expected to be formally charged next week. But there are still a lot of unknowns when it comes to the prosecution of this case.
Tyler Robinson, 22, was booked in the Utah County Jail on aggravated murder, discharge of a firearm, and obstruction of justice charges.
Officials with the Utah County Sheriff's Office said he was placed in the special housing unit until he could be cleared by medical staff and moved to the "appropriate housing for the charges." They said the unit has around-the-clock physical supervision.
Officials said someone is typically placed in this unit due to the crimes they are accused of, behavioral issues, violent behavior, and/or suicidal comments made during arrest. They did not provide the specific reason Robinson was placed in the unit.
"Our highest priority is the safety of our staff and those persons detained in our facility," they said.
My heart goes out to the parents of this young man who lost sight of humanity. I hope and pray the best for all involved. It is expected that he will be given the death penalty because of his actions.
A lot of the college students made and contributed to a makeshift memorial to honor Charlie Kirk on the lawn on the UVU campus where he was assassinated.
Our beloved prophet, seer, and revelator, Pres. Russell M. Nelson passed away . He was 101 years old. My heart was hurts; I connected with his smile, his spirit, his words of wisdom and advice so much. His life was given in service to many inside and outside of the Church.
From the news: Russell Marion Nelson Sr. (September 9, 1924 – September 27, 2025) was an American religious leader and surgeon who was the 17th president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from 2018 until his death in 2025. Before becoming church president, Nelson was a member of its Quorum of the Twelve Apostles for nearly 34 years and was the quorum president from 2015 to 2018. As church president, Nelson was recognized by the church as the prophet, seer, and revelator of the Church.
The day after the news that Pres. Nelson passed away we were informed that there had been a fatal shooting at a Church in Michigan. The gunman started the building on fire, then ran his truck into the building as the meeting was starting, He got out of his truck and ran in the building carrying guns and opened fire. Men, women, and children were either wounded or killed as they tried to escape. Many were injured, some with serious injury.
Another senseless act of inhumanity due to allowing hatred into a heart. So very sad. The shooter was in his 40's and ended up losing his own life while exchanging gunfire with the police.
From the news: GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Search crews did not find any additional bodies inside a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel where a former Marine opened fire and set the building ablaze, killing four people, authorities said Monday.
Authorities had feared they would find more victims in the charred wreckage but now believe everyone is accounted for after Sunday’s attack on the church in Michigan where services were taking place, said Grand Blanc Township Chief of Police William Renye.
Investigators were focusing on what motivated the former Marine to ram his pickup truck into the church in Grand Blanc Township, about 60 miles (96 kilometers) north of Detroit. The suspect was killed while exchanging gunfire with two officers, the chief said.
Eight people — ages 6 to 78 — were injured, including five with gunshot wounds, the chief said. The others suffered smoke inhalation.
“This was an evil act of violence,” Renye said.
We've had sunny days, but some dark days as well this month. I want to end with what Pres. Nelson said:
