August was pretty awesome, and it went by a lot faster than I wanted!!
I had given Dale tickets to go see "A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder" that was playing at the Utah Theater as part of the Utah Opera Festival for an anniversary gift, so we cashed them in and enjoyed another evening out together. It was a fun show and neat be in the Utah Theater again.Michael Ballam spear-headed the renovation of the Utah Theater and it looks nice. We are blessed to have so many wonderful venues for the theater arts to be highlighted in.
Dale & I started overseeing a new service day that was opened the first week of the month for the Cache Valley Humanitarian Center in Logan. We started with a group of six and have had as many as twelve. I soloed the second week and all went well. Hopefully it will pick-up more and we'll have some that come weekly. We both are enjoying serving.
We had our grandkids; Jaxson, Kennlyn, & Mazin, show up one afternoon to help early in the month, and my brother Danny, and his wife, Terry, showed up to help at the last of the month. That was a welcome surprise and fun to visit with them some. Family support is always appreciated.
I served in the Logan Temples Youth Center and watched a 5 yr. old boy and 1 yr. old boy. The little boy was sealed to his parents and his older brother was able to see it happen. They were both the cutest kids and were so attentive in the sealing room. A wonderful spirit was in the room for all to feel.
Speaking of temples, I was able to see the progress that is being made on the building of the Smithfield temple. It is looking more and more like a temple. What a blessing to have in our area.
I also ushered for Lohengrin and the Elton version of Aida at the Eccles again. I'd have to say that these two were probably my favorite Operas. I've never seen or heard of either one, but they were great in my eyes.
Dale pulled the guys in the family that could go, together and went on a guy's camping trip up in the Uintah's. Our neighbor, Corey Ercanbrack gave Dale tips on a cool spot that he thought all would love, an area around Rasmussen Lake where the fishing was awesome!!
This year some of the grandkids joined in on the outing. Matt took Jaxson (17 yrs.) and Langston (10 yrs.), Andrew took Titan (12 yrs.), and Garrett took Luke, who is only 6 yrs. old.
They got rained on some, and Andrew, Titan, and Dale saw deer in their camp. They all got in some good fishing too. Garrett, Jaxson and Dale made a wooden raft to fish on for some added fun.
It wasn't too long or too much of a hike and I think that the smile on their faces says it all.
When Dale got home, he & I went and watched Jorie and Langston play in the Striker Cup Tournament held in Layton and Kaysville, and then we spent some time with Danica & June and saw what they had done on their house and yard and what they drew for the Weber Days sidewalk contest and visited.
It was a full day and Dale wasn't recovered from his boy's trip. He sat on the couch at Danica's and was out within minutes!!
We slept over at Danica & Jason's house and got to visit with them some more as well.
The next day we got up early and supported Garrett as he swam, biked, and ran in the Wasatch Triathlon that started at East Canyon reservoir and ended in Morgan.
He had two of his friends, Nic Winn and Tanner Adams do it with him.
They all finished and can cross this one off their bucket list!! Way to go guys!!
From there we headed to see Mazin play in a soccer game. His team took 1st place in his age division. Way to go Mazin! It was a great weekend.
Later in the next week Dale & I both headed south again to watch Jaxson play in a game in the Wasatch Soccer Tournament and then got to see Langston play in a game. Langston's team ended up taking 1st place in their age division in this tournament. Way to go Langston!!
Danica decided she wanted to learn how to bottle green beans and we have had a LOT of beans from the garden, so I was glad to accommodate her wishes. She got a pressure cooker full!
Amie found a deal on cases of raspberries so Danica, and I met at Amie's, and we did up some raspberry freezer jam for each of us. I also froze some raspberries. Talk about busy bees.
I met up with a couple of the gals that I went to BYU-Hawaii with, Teri Campbell Johnson and Deana Farnsworth Mendenhall. We went to Karen Jones Pickett's dad's viewing. It was good to reunite with some of the gals and reminisce and share stories. Those were good times that happened 33-34 years ago, and we've kept in touch. Pretty cool, huh?
Dale got in some more fishing with some friends at Lamont Reservoir in ID. I think he's got the bug, don't you?
Dale got the boat out on the water again, but the boat wouldn't start; the battery was dead. Then he took it out another time, but after a few rides the engine would heat up. We took it in the shop and thought we got it fixed, but this time the engine would heat up just after we'd taken the kids on a few knee board rides and surfing!! I got in a nice boat ride though.
We had to wave down a boat to get them to tow us back to shore because the boat wouldn't start after we shut the engine down to cool it off.
Looks like we need to get it checked out and fixed again (or maybe just buy a different boat).
I ushered at the Eccles for the show "Hotel California--A Tribute to the Eagles. It was wonderful!! My music from my high school and college days. Loved it!!
Dale & I hosted a neighborhood backyard party and ended up having 55 people here. It was great to see everyone visiting, eating, and having a good time. The kids were loving the sand volleyball pit, and the lawn games too. We did up Dutch Oven BBQ Chicken, rolls, the drink, and paper goods and all that came brought something to add to the meal. We've done this for MANY years at the end of summer. We sure love where we live.
Dale hooked up the trailer and we headed over the mountain to spend some down time at Bear Lake. While we were there, we were able to witness a Super Moon that last happened in 2018 and won't happen again until 2027!!
We sat on the beach and saw this. The moon was SO bright it reminded me of when we were in Alaska, and it still looked like dusk at 11:00pm.
The picture on the left is what we took while on the beach at Bear Lake. The picture on the right is what we got off of a news clip on Facebook from KSL TV news. Dale took the 4-wheeler for a ride up in the sinks area to look for some grouse, I walked the beach, we rode our bikes to the Garden City Pond and played pickleball on the courts there, then rode back to the trailer. We relaxed and even got a little nap in a few times. We also caught this pretty sunset from the beach.
I'll share more about our Bear Lake adventures next month.
Nate celebrated his 41st birthday!! He's not letting his age slow him down much though. They still find time to get out and do in the outdoors. To celebrate his birthday, they spent some time on the water sailing among the San Juan Islands. Then they got together with Diana's family and had a birthday get-together. Happy Birthday Nate!!
They've both been making the most in their day jobs as well. They've got to pay to play, right?
The Mallory's aren't letting grass grow under them either, they've been playing basketball on the hardwood, and soccer on the green fields.
Mazin was in a 3vs3 basketball tournament and did quite well, taking 1st in his age division.
Kennlyn's been working at a Sno Shack called Daysie's and I stopped in on her one day when she was working and got a Orangescicle Dreamer. It was pretty tasty and fun to see Kennlyn in action.
All of the Mallory's started back to school this year. Matt's still working as a school counselor at Heritage Elementary School, Amie was approached by the principal for a job opportunity with support help during lunch and for the teachers in the classroom part-time that she accepted, Jaxson started his Sr. year, and Kennlyn her freshman yr. at Ridgeline High School, Langston started 5th grade, and Mazin started 2nd grade at Providence Elementary School.
Kennlyn also celebrated her 15th birthday! What's crazy is that Matt & Amie will have two kids driving in the house next year!!
Dale & I took her on a birthday date to celebrate. We ate at HuHot and then went to a pre-season Ridgeline HS Football game that was held in the USU Maverick Stadium. It was fun to watch the game and meet some of her friends. We treated her to a Sno Cone and popcorn as a treat.
Kennlyn had a Murder Mystery Birthday Party. It took place at an Italian Restaurant. She was the cook. All that came were different characters. Mazin dressed up as a waiter. It was a fun evening for all. Happy Birthday Kennlyn!!
Andrew & Lindsay had one of his co-workers come to Utah to see how life is in Utah for Andrew. They took them to St. George and had some fun in the sun, checking out the red rocks, getting in a few hikes, and stopping in at Cove Fort on the way home. Fun times.
It was back to school for them as well. Titan started 7th grade in Middle School at the school his dad went to as a 9th grade center, North Cache. Eloise started 5th grade, and Nora and Arwyn started 1st grade at White Pine Elementary.
Andrew, Lindsay and their dog Toby will be in a quieter house for a longer time with all the kids in a full day of school now. A change for them too.
Garrett's making a name for himself as a presenter. He pulled off a seminar to help families make their dream of owning a home come true. Hard work pays off.
Zandra's the acting President of Mountain Green Elementary's PTSO organization and has been busy getting ready for the school year. I'm sure the kids will love seeing her at the school.
Jorie started 2nd grade and Luke started 1st grade this year so the timing for her to take the helm seems good to me where both the kids are in school for the same amount of time now.
Jason's also been putting in some hard work to help dreams of a new home happen for others. He received a big shout out for all of his hard work. Pretty Sweet!
They did get out on the water some and got Dale & I on their boat with them one evening. It was a great way to cool off. Danica's still on the water even being 4 months pregnant.
They also got away for a weekend and went to Island Park. It rained a lot when they were there, but they still had fun with the Hassell family.
Danica had her first ultrasound and found out they're definitely having a boy that's looking pretty healthy too.
This month was full of sun, rain, hail, and more rain. Some areas of the state had more flooding, and Southern Utah had some flash flooding that was pretty bad as well. We didn't get it quite as bad here, luckily. My heart goes out to those affected by these storms though.
Utah (ABC4) — A dangerous line of storms is currently heading throughout Utah, Salt Lake, Juab, Garfield, Wasatch, and Tooele Counties. The storms are reportedly capable of 70 mph winds, heavy rain, and an abundance of lightning. In some areas, the storm may also bring hail. Right now the storms are currently impacting Utah County, and heading towards Salt Lake and Tooele Counties.
The town of Lahaina, Maui in the Hawaiian Islands were also dealt with some severe weather issues due to strong winds and fire. Most of the town was pretty much in ashes once it all ended, and there were quite a few lives that were lost. So sad for these people.
The weather has been crazy around different parts of the world with earthquakes and typhoons as well. It's just been a really freaky year so far weather wise.
Here's some before and after pictures of some of the areas in Maui. It's SO sad!!

We've also had a rise in the cost of living, gas prices are rising, and food prices are rising. Inflation is impacting the people of America, and we are seeing more people in need help.
I hope our country recovers from all the mayhem and other things that are happening in our country. The government is still sending money to Ukraine to help with the war against Russia as well as offering help for those hit hard by natural disasters. By doing all of this our taxes are going to be going up even more.I do have to say though, that the people of America are strong, and we will get through this. We truly do live in the land of promise.
