Jovial June

I called this month jovial because there was a lot of good that happened this month that brought a lot of smiles to our hearts.

To start out with Amie & Matt celebrated their 19th Wedding Anniversary by inviting us to go and do sealings with them in the Logan Temple and then they played pickleball and went to dinner. Matt said that Amie beat him on all but one game. I guess that shows that love endures all?

Dale & I went to Arwyn's dance showcase with Lindsay. Arwyn was beaming on stage. You can tell she's loving dance. She may be our loan dancer in the family. Thanks for all the hard work Arwyn, it showed. You did great!!

Zandra rode in the Little Red Riding Hood bike Ride with some of her friends. Dale and I were able to cheer for them at the end of the ride. They rode for 30 miles!! Way to go ladies!!

Jason got promoted to be the Branch Manager for the Guild Team Office in Layton. Nice work Jason!!

Jason and Danica also got their town home rented and closed on the loan for their house.  Two days later Dale and I were able to help them move into their new home. They also had help from close friends and some of Jason's family, so the move went quite smoothly. We are so happy for them in this new adventure of being homeowners. They'll be in a nice area with some great neighbors. They had a few of those neighbors show up to help with the move as well as had some come over and introduce themselves. We wish them the best.

Two days after they got moved in all but Nate and Diana went on a Bahja family cruise! The Mallory's and Andrew & Lindsay's clan drove, and the rest of the group flew to Los Angeles. We all boarded the Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas Cruise Ship for the Hansen Family Reunion. Fun times!!

Day 1: We all got checked in and settled on the ship. We met for lunch at the Windjammer and then we hit the pools, mini golf course, climbing wall, went to an ice skating show, and anything else that we could fit in. We all met in the Main Dining Area for a family dinner and played some more. Jaxson was the winner of a dance off even! Pretty crazy!

Day 2: Those that wanted, met for breakfast and then met to go ice skating. I went with Garrett to a couple of the games they hosted. He's still recovering from his bike accident, so we made our own fun while most of the group went to the pool or the flow rider. I did don a swimsuit and went on the slides with the kids. The weather was a bit brisk, but a warm shower helped. We went to a variety show and got into some of the games on the ship. Zandra, Garrett and Kennlyn put on their own show for us as well. What happens on the ship doesn't stay on the ship with this group though.

Day 3: We ported at Catalina Island and those that wanted to went snorkeling. The water was WAY cold, but they bucked it up and did it! Others played in the sand and enjoyed the ocean and sun. Then we all got ice cream before loading up on the boats that ferried us back to the ship for more games, shows, and fun.

Day 4: We ended up in Ensenada, Mexico! We all shopped and got our souvenirs. Eloise, Nora, and Arwyn got their hair braided. Most of the group bought ponchos, and we all had a good time. We met for dinner on the ship, went to another show and went to the Friendly Family Feud game where the Mallory's and Jason were called up to play. They made it to the final round, then got beat out. After the show they met the real guy that is the announcer for the TV game show Family Feud. Pretty cool.

Day 5: We docked back in Los Angeles, CA with tummies full of ice cream (the kids loved the free ice cream almost as much as Garrett), hearts full of love and a better appreciation for family. Langston's frown is how we felt, but we all had a great time. The Hassell's and Mallory's left for home, but Andrew & Lindsay's family, Garrett & Zandra and the kids, along with Dale and I stayed at the pier and toured the USS Iowa Battleship that was docked at the pier. It was pretty cool. We were able to be on the ship when they shot three rounds from the big guns off the ship too. Boy, was that loud!!

We all got off the ship and said our good-byes to Andrew's crew who was heading to Disneyland. Garrett's crew had a flight out about the same time as we did, so we all jumped in an Uber ride to get us to the airport. From there we parted our ways.
Thanks, Hassell's for putting this reunion together. We definitely missed Nate & Diana, but that's the way it is sometimes. Maybe next year we'll get the whole crew together.

We got home and found all well. The next day we served in the Cache Valley Humanitarian Center making sleeping mats for those in need. It's a pretty awesome cause and we serve with some wonderful people.

I was able to meet up with some of my childhood River Heights friends for lunch again. One of our gals, Janis Tingey Workman, will be leaving for a mission in the Philippines with her husband, serving as Mission President. I have known most of these ladies since elementary school. We laughed, we cried, we reminisced, and we shared stories of our current families and life circumstances. I feel so lucky to know these special women and look forward to meeting again and hope those that couldn’t come will be able to come next time. River Heights was such a great place to grow up. I am truly blessed!!
❤️❤️❤️
L-R: Lori Earl Andrus, Liz Larsen Hadfield, Amy Jenkins Robinson, Andrea Larsen Davis, Becky Jensen Olsen, Kathy Humphreys Bullen, Janis Tingey Workman, LuAnn Davis Erickson, and me!

Dale and I were able to go see his niece, Emma Hansen, be sealed in the Provo City Center Temple, and go to their reception as well. She looked beautiful. Mr. & Mrs. Carson Price make a nice looking couple. I wish them the best.

We had those that could come here for dinner for a day early Father's Day cook-out. We ate, visited, and played yard games. The weather was perfect too!

Happy Father's Day to all the dad's in our family.

I was able to get together with two good friends, Jeanette Petersen and Kathy Bullen. We got some take-out and went to Kathy's and played games and visited and then Jeanette slept over at our house and we met up at Kathy's for Brunch and more visiting. Its' been awhile since we've been together, so this was the perfect way to catch up. Thanks Jeanette, for making it happen.

Dale and I were to host an Empty Nesters cook-out at our house, but Dale ended up hosting it alone because Amie wanted company to help chaperone some of the boys for Jaxson's soccer tournament in the San Diego, CA area. I left the morning of the day that the dinner was to be held at our house. From what I was told, Dale did great and the meal was very tasty. I'm glad it went well.
Day 1: I headed to Amies at 7:00am and we drove to Provo to catch a flight on a newer airline, Alligent Air, that flies out of Provo. We flew into the John Wayne Airport in Santa Barbara, CA and picked up our rental car. Amie was the designated driver and I was her co-captain. Between both of us we found the hotel and got checked in, grabbed a bite to eat at a tasty sushi place by the hotel Went to the beach and walked along it at sunset, then headed back to the hotel and hit the sack.

Day 2: We slept in and grabbed some breakfast at the hotel. Then we headed out for Jaxson's first game in the tournament. The tournament was held at an equestrian park that had down-sized so the area was nice, but the fields were dry and hard. There also weren't bleachers or much shade and it was hot! Amie is the assistant coach, but they only allowed two coaches on the field so she sat on the dirt with me and we watched the game. It was a good game, but they came out with a loss. I felt like Jaxson played well.
After the game we found a Wal-mart on the way back to the hotel and bought a couple of chairs for Amie and I for the rest of the games, grabbed some lunch and went to the ocean and cooled off some. We got some dinner and played card games in our room.

Day 3: After breakfast we played card games by the pool with some of the guys on the team and grabbed some lunch then headed back to the field for game 2. They played real well and beat this team. They had another game and tied. It was a good game as well.
After the game we met the team at Buffalo Wild Wings for a team dinner and to watch a USU vs Mexico Soccer Exhibition game. It was a good way to help the team get to gel better with it being a new team.
We got back to the hotel and visited with some of the parents and the guys soaked in the hot tub,

Day 4: Where it was a Sunday, we got on our Sunday clothes and went to a wards Sacrament Meeting that was close to the hotel we stayed at. It was a smaller ward, but I love how you always feel at home in church anywhere you go.
We got some lunch and headed to another game. They needed to win this game in order to be in the playoff game, but they lost so no play-off game.
The team went to the beach and played football on the beach, and in the ocean.
We were there to see the sunset and Amie & I, along with a couple of the mom's from the group, took a walk along the beach at sunset. So pretty!
We got back to the room late, so we just hit the sack.

Day 5: Our flight out was later in the day so we ate one last breakfast at the hotel, packed up our bags and headed towards the Newport Beach area where we had lined up a dolphin and whale watching tour.
We didn't see any whales or dolphins, but we saw sea lions and got a feeling of that ocean air.
We ate at a nice restaurant on the pier and then headed back to drop off our car at the airport and get checked in for our flight. We weren't wanting to go back to our colder temperatures. Those beach days were pretty nice!

We landed in Provo around 11:30 pm and while there I saw my cousins, Bill and Gail Hadfield (My Uncle Elden and Aunt Sarah's oldest child) at the airport. They had been to California as well!!
We stopped at In & Out so Jaxson could get a hamburger and fries, and Amie & I got a shake. We arrived at Amie's around 1:30 am and unpacked the car and I headed home. I climbed into bed around 2:30 am. Sleeping in your own bed is a nice thing.
It was a great get away and fun to see Jaxson showing his finesse out on the field again.

Two days later Dale and I headed out with Floyd and Alison Griffiths for an Alaskan cruise!!
Day 1: The Griffiths left their truck at our house and we all headed to Salt Lake in our truck. We all made it through security (even Floyd with all of the hardware he has in him). We had a layover in Denver, CO and that flight got pushed back twice!! I was beginning to wonder if we'd ever get to Vancouver, Canada in time to get on the ship!!
We played cards and walked around the airport to pass time. Luckily we got a flight out, but arrived in Vancouver a lot later than we wanted so we just checked into the hotel and went to bed. We were hoping to have some time to see of the sights around Vancouver. I guess we'll have to plan a trip just for that.

Day 2: We were able to get a Uber to take us to the pier and got checked in on the ship. We grabbed some lunch at the Windjammer, visited and checked out the ship. Then we went to our rooms and got settled in. We went to dinner and caught the Welcome Aboard Night Show, visited and hit the sack.

The rest of our Alaskan adventure will continue in next month's blog.

Nate and Diana are living out their dreams. They headed out for some foreign climbing by going to the Chamonix mountain area in France. Talk about beautiful and exhiliariting!! They got onto some big mountains and snow. More will come in next month's blog for them as well.

On the drive to California for the Hansen Family Reunion the Mallory's stopped and saw some of the fun sights along the way by checking out Seven Magic Mountains in Nevada and Gun Lock Falls in the St. George area on the way back.

Jaxson isn't the only one doing soccer this summer---Langston, and Mazin are as well.
Kennlyn took a break a got a job at Pinks Sno-shack for the summer. Her first job!! Way to go Kennlyn!!

Andrew and Lindsay celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary this month. Look what 13 years has brought them!!

They took the kids to Disneyland after the family cruise. I'm not sure who loved it more, the kids or Lindsay!! They all had a good time and Titan rode the Matterhorn and Space Mountain rides and loved them!!

They also hooked up their trailer and went camping at Bear Lake for a weekend get away. Titan's learning to play the guitar and before we know it he'll be providing the music around the campfires for all that want to join in a song.

Garrett & Zandra have had Jorie and Luke in soccer, and Garrett will be coaching Jorie on a competitive team in the fall.
They also have gotten their boat out for some family fun. We haven't even had ours out of the garage yet!

They also know the importance of family time and hosted a Hansen Cousins get together at their house. It was pretty well attended and good to see some reconnecting happen among the cousins that haven't been together for awhile.

The Hassell's spent some time in St. George so that Jason could get in on his annual 100 rounds of golf game with his dad. That's a lot of golf in one day. I would say they love the game of golf!
They also surprised us with some exciting news. The Hassell's will be adding another little one to their family in January! Danica didn't even realize she was pregnant because she's been feeling great, but just gaining a little weight. We are totally thrilled for them. June will be a great big sister.

June definitely lived up to its name. We all have had a jovial time in one way or another.
