I named this post March Marathon because it's been a LONG month with a LOT of snow!!
Our state broke a LOT of records in snowfall and water levels. We've had some days in the 40's, and some sunny days, but only for a day or two and then colder and snow, a LOT of snow!!
At Snow Basin, by where Garrett lives, they got so much snow that it was hitting the chairs on the ski lift!!
Here's some of the totals around our area, and at the ski resorts.
It's been quite an adventure, and with all of the snow shoveling it's been hard on some backs even with a plow on the ATV, because the snow is so heavy. We just hope that we don't have any major flooding to deal with next month.
At the first of the month Dale got on our porch roof and shoveled off the snow to help with run-off and to lighten the load on the roof. He also got what he could off of the garage roof.
His back felt it after that morning. A good soaking in some warm water with Epsom salts helped.
Dale and I were able to take Eloise on her Birthday date to celebrate her 10th birthday. We got her to try a new place to eat. We went to Hungry Howie's Pizza, and she liked it!! We also went to "Color Me Mine" and she painted a ceramic fox and Dale & I painted on an Easter bunny Nome. It was a fun out, and good for the soul. They both turned out looking pretty good too! Eloise has a pretty steady hand; she'll be helping her mom with her #LazyLouHandmade items before you know it.
Dale and I went and cheered on the USU Aggies Men's Basketball team as they played Boise State. It was a back-and-forth game, but the Aggies pulled through for the win! That put them in a tie for 2nd place in the Mountain western Conference play-off games.
LOGAN – The Utah State men’s basketball team will face Missouri in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Aggies were chosen as a 10 seed, the Tigers as a seven in the South region.
In those games, they ended up winning and getting into the finals, but losing to San Diego State, who ended up winning the Mountain west tournament. It was fun watching this team this year. They have a lot of heart.
The sad thing is that Coach Odam accepted an offer to coach at VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University) after being approached after coaching at USU for two years and taking the Aggies to the playoffs both years.
I ushered at the Eccles Theater for the production of The World Ballet Series in "Cinderella". Dale and I were able to attend the "Taiko Project" show, and I ushered for the production the Cache Valley Ballet Dance put on of "Coppelia". All very entertaining shows.
The Eccles Theatre celebrated it's 100th anniversary at the end of the month by hosting three days of performances. On March 29-31 of 1923 it opened to full houses. Cars lined the streets of downtown Logan for blocks in both directions. The original grand opening featured five performances over three days with local talent, films, and touring artists. Tickets for the 1923 grand opening would have set you back a whole dollar - twice the price of a combination vaudeville and movie ticket and four times the price of a movie - including war tax. My how times have changed!!
Our theaters three-day celebration echoed these elements with world-class local performers on the 29th, Back to the Future on the screen on the 30th, and Grammy Award winning singer-songwriters Marc Cohn and Shawn Colvin on Friday. I ushered for "Back to the Future" with my brother, Larry, and his wife, Glee, and Dale and I were able to attend the show put on by Marc Cohn and Shawn Colvin.
We live in a wonderful area that loves the arts and has SO much local talent as well!
Danica and June came up for a weekend to get in some girl time. Amie, Kennlyn, Danica and I got together for the evening and went to an early dinner at Olive Garden and then gave each other facials, foot rubs and watched a show. If nothing else we came out with full tummies, glowing faces, and soft heels! It was a fun evening. Thanks gals. The next morning, we went and cheered on Jaxson in his Jr. Jazz game. His team took 2nd place in the tournament.
We pulled together all the kids that live in the state together for our annual St. Patrick's Day meal and games. Spending time we can with family truly is a blessing and makes me feel blessed. The corned beef and cabbage are always a hit too.
We stayed a night at their house and then they stayed at our house the rest of the time because they had Friday off of school for a Teacher Prep Day.
The kids build a Lincoln log fort, and we showed it to Andrew via Face Time. We also played games, danced, bowled, and played baseball with the Wii, and the kids played outside some. Titan even taught Dale how to draw a dog!! Pretty impressive, I'd say.
We were glad to help out, the kids were great company for us. Andrew got in late on Friday night, so he slept at our house and then they headed home after breakfast.
Dale's serving in the temple now as the Initiatory coordinator for his shift every Wednesday morning. I served in the Youth Center for a cute family that had their little sister sealed to them. I also got in a temple endowment session and got in some initiatory work.
Our Washington State kids have been getting some snow as well. Nate got Diana out on the groomed slopes for 30 days and then he got Diana out doing some backcountry skiing, which was a first for her. Pretty awesome! I think she's converted from snowboarding to skis, maybe?
They're both keeping busy with work and the Dr. office is running pretty well for them. It's nice to have great office help.
Amie's been on the slopes quite a bit teaching ski lessons at Cherry Peak. Dale helped her out when needed, and she's been able to take Langston and Mazin on the hill some. With all of this snow one has to take advantage of it when they can! Langston and Mazin are becoming pretty good skiers too.
They also got to get in some good sledding at Gibbons Park, in the area. Looks like they got some air too!!
Langston was able to go and ski a couple of days at Snow Basin with his Uncle Garrett and Aunt Zandra and cousins, Jorie and Luke. He had a Get Out Ski Pass that allowed him to try some new resorts. They were great hosts, and all had a fun time. Isn't it great to belong to such an awesome family?
Dale and I went and watched both Langston and Jaxson play basketball. It's been fun seeing them improve and have fun.
Jaxson celebrated his 17th birthday! We went to dinner at Amie and Matt's to celebrate and for our birthday date with him we went to dinner at Texas Roadhouse and then gave him a card with some money in it. True to Texas Roadhouse and birthdays, they pulled out the saddle and we all gave him a big YE-HAW to put a smile on his face. Happy Birthday Jaxson! You're making us feel old!!!
Andrew was working in Ohio and then Indiana before he headed home. The weather there was quite a bit nicer there than here. His groundman, Tom, got these pictures of him flying.
Andrew got Dale out on the slopes at Beaver Mtn. this month. With all of the fresh powder they had some great ski days.
He also got the kids outside sledding in their backyard. The snow was so deep though that they had to pack it down some to make a trail.
They were not only lucky, but also blessed this month when Lindsay went down into their cold storage room that's below their front porch and found water seeping in from the floor. Luckily their contractor was able to come with his equipment and dig up his front area to find the cause. It appeared that there was an underground ditch flowing into that area and that was making the water seep through the foundation seams. They were able to put in a barrel that held a sump pump, which was able to divert the water. They were also blessed because they found out about this before they had put their yard in.
Garrett got out with some of his work buddies and went snowmobiling, and he and Zandra took advantage of where they live and went to Snow Basin as much as they could. The kids are getting better at skiing each time they go.
Before the storm---
To get out of the snow and to meet up with some of Zandra's friends from Washington, Garrett & Zandra went to Las Vegas to go to the Taylor Swift concert and enjoy a break from shoveling the snow. Zandra's mom watched their kids while they were gone.
While they were gone, we picked up Jorie and Luke at their house and took them to the Jazz vs The Milwaukee Bucks game at the Vivint area in Salt Lake. They had played in the Jr. Jazz program and had 4 tickets to the game. We had to go to two different places to find parking, but we made it in time to be in our seats to see the tip-off. The game was a blow-out loss for the Jazz, but we had fun. Coming home, it was snowing, and we plowed through another 5-6 inches of snow in their driveway!! They really do have a lot of snow!!
I think we wore the kids out though, because they were fast asleep when we stopped the car.
Danica was asked to draw some baby zoo animals for a friend's nursery and so here's what she came up with. Pretty cute, huh?
The Hassell's had some indoor fun by taking June to a trampoline park. Then took advantage of the sunshine days and took her to a playground, hiked to a waterfall up the mouth of Ogden Canyon, and gave her a ride on Jason's motorcycle. In June's 1st year, she's done quite a bit hasn't she!!
As you can see their snow had almost melted at one point this month, but more storms brought more white stuff and Jason and Danica took advantage of the snow and got in some skiing as well.
June turned 1 this month!! Happy Birthday June!! Jason & Danica threw her a "Wild One" zoo themed party! There was a kids bounce house, pizza, breadsticks, snacks, drinks, cake, and ice cream! June was SO cute and fun! It's crazy to think that she's already ONE! Where does the time go? We sure love our June bug!!
They got out of the cold and went to Mexico, for an awards recognition trip from Guild Mortgage because Jason made it in the Presidents Club. They enjoyed the beach, a horseback ride, a golf game, good food, and good company.
They left June with Dale and I and missed her terribly, but we had fun for the 3 days we had her. She had her cousin Langston and Aunt Amie visit, and we took her to dinner at her Uncle Andrew & Aunt Lindsay's house to play with her cousins Titan, Eloise, Nora, and Arwyn. They have a dog named Toby and June was totally enthralled with the dog! It was so cute to watch!! She loved playing with the play kitchen and cupboard set at our house too.
Mid-week we took her to Brigham City and let Grandma Jan have some time with our June Bug. She was an absolute delight to watch, so happy, a great eater, and napper, and even went to bed well!! We missed her when she left too!!
The day that Jason & Danica were to leave Mexico, they got stuck on the bus that was taking them to the airport. Traffic was at a standstill due to a big protest that was going on that was blocking the only road to the airport! It made them miss their flight and they ended up getting put up in a nice hotel at the expense of Guild Mortgage until they could get another flight booked. Danica was in tears, she was SO ready to see June!!
The end of the month we broke more records for snowpack and water--This month was truly like a marathon. Will Spring ever come, or will we just jump into summer?
