Mighty May

Well, this is what we woke up to, the first day of May! Snow, not May flowers, Snow!! It had melted by afternoon, but still, Snow!! We may have a short summer!

We watched Garrett & Zandra's two kids, Jorie and Luke, for 4 days and 3 nights while they went on a mini trip to Las Vegas. They both kept us on our toes, but we had a fun time and they both slept great at night. They loved throwing rocks into the water at our Married Student Ward Party, watching soccer games and playing with cousins, both getting to go to nursery class on Sunday (because that's all our Married Student Ward has) for Primary, playing outside, going on walks, playing with the playdough, creating collages, coloring, having stories read to them and watching Mickey Mouse Club just to name a few of the fun things we did. I was glad to see that they didn't want to go home with mom and dad when the time came. Mission accomplished.

I finished up my DIBELS (Acadience) testing at Lewiston Elementary and they had this cool Bee Box in the library that let the kids see how the bees make honey. I learned that the Queen Bee has a red spot on it's body and we found her. It was pretty cool. I'm sure the kids at the school have enjoyed watching and learning about bees this year. Can you see the Queen Bee?

Speaking of pretty cool... another school, Birch Creek, in Smithfield had a pretty cool work of art hanging in their entryway. It was a hanging made out of colored plastic pop bottles and looked SO pretty with the light hitting it from the skylight (the picture doesn't do it justice). The kids at the school helped create it. Pretty nifty.

While we're on the "cool things" theme.....I sure work with some awesome ladies! They have become great friends and co-workers.  I have a great "service job" as Dale calls it, because I get to work with the kids who for the most part are pretty fun to visit and work with and I work with these wonderful women. It's why I keep coming back every year, I enjoy seeing the kids progress and love these DIBELS Darlings!! (And this isn't even all of our group)

Mother's Day week I got surprised by coming home from work and finding a box on the porch for me. It had fresh flowers in it and some chocolates from Nate for Mother's Day. How thoughtful is that?

Then Mother's Day weekend Danica and Amie surprised me at the door with a vase with tulip bulbs, and a night of pampering. We went to dinner at Callaways', with all of us wearing the same color of jewelry, and came home to watch a chick flick and more fun. They had kicked Dale out of the house for the night. He ended up staying the night with Matt (Amie's husband) and the Malllory crew.

We talked, laughed , did facials, changed our faces to see what we'd look like as a guy through a phone app and it was determined that I'd look a lot like Nate if I was a guy (Which is ok with me because I think he's pretty handsome). We got to bed way late, and acted like high schoolers again! What a fun, crazy evening we had.

In the morning, they took me to breakfast at Kneaders for their yummy French Toast and found out that they were offering all women a free French Toast breakfast during the time we were there!! A tasty surprise for all of us!!

Then Amie headed home to get her kids to their soccer games and Danica and I went to some of Amie's kids soccer games. did some shopping, and went to Titans (Andrew's boy) piano recital. All did great and loved having cheerleaders or an audience to preform for. It's great seeing the kids develop their talents, and was fun spending the day supporting family and with Danica and spending the evening with my crazy girls! What a great pre-Mother's Day weekend.

Then to top off the weekend....the flowers that Nate had given me were in full bloom on Mother's Day! They sure smelled good too. What a treat to find when I came downstairs.

Amie had invited Dale and I over for dinner and we got there a little early, so Kennlyn and Langston asked me if I wanted to go on a walk with them while dinner was getting ready. When we got back, dinner still wasn't ready, so they had me play H-O-R-S-E with them outside. When it was time for dinner, we went in and found Danica and Jason there and a halibut and shrimp dinner waiting. Another surprise!! I had no idea Danica was coming and that we'd be having such a fancy meal, but it was all delightful! They all showed me their love in their own unique way, from items to help spice up or help with the yard, to pampering. I have some pretty good kids and a great hubby.

I also have a pretty awesome mom who I love dearly and feel so grateful to have been able to call her "Mom". Happy Mother's Day to my Heavenly Mom, love you.

Dale and I went to Garrett and Zandra's to celebrate Luke's 2nd birthday with them. He loved his new bike and all of the attention. Happy Birthday, tough biker guy, Luke!!

I went to Jaxson and Kennlyn's piano recital and heard how well they've progressed. Again, it's great to see how the kids are developing their talents.

Dale and I headed south again and went to see Jorie's ballet recital. She looked so cute in her leotard and with her hair up. You could tell she was looking for us out in the audience, but with the lights she couldn't see us. So cute!

It was also Zandra's birthday so we went to their place after and had cake and ice cream and visited to celebrate. Happy Birthday Zandra!!

We had some crazy weather this month. Snow, rain, and wind. One night we had some REAL strong winds and woke up to find out that a Pine tree had been blown over, our BBQ Grill had been blown down the steps and off the back porch (luckily with no damage to the railing), and part of the roof in our covered porch had blown out. We had neighbors around us that had trees go down, siding blown off houses, shingles off of roofs, trampolines destroyed, and fences knocked out. After driving around and seeing some of the destruction we realized how blessed we were to have our minor damage. It was crazy!!You would of thought a tornado went through the area.

After picking up what I could to clean up the yard I went to Spring Creek Middle School and saw Jaxson get some awards at school. He got the Honor Roll Recognition Award, an Academic Excellence Award, and in following in his mom's (and uncles) footsteps, he got the Inter-mural Champion Award. Way to go Jaxson, for brightening up my day!

For Memorial Day weekend we went kayaking with the Mallory's in the marshes just off of the Valley View highway east of Logan, It was a nice evening and so pretty seeing all of the green on the mountains. We went to their place after and had pizza and visited.

We also went and visited the cemeterie in the areas and put flowers and  pinwheels on the graves with them.

On Memorial Day, it rained, but that didn't stop Dale and I from going to visit Grouse Creek, UT to put flowers on my Grandpa and Grandma Hadfield's grave, and checking out the area where my mom grew up.

The roads were long, quiet, wet and muddy, and the cemetery was wet and muddy, but it was pretty and green and we saw quite a few antelope on our drive.

We saw where my mom went to school and where she lived. It's been fixed up a bit, but it's all still there.

The cemetery was pretty interesting. There were a lot of Kimber's and Tanners buried there as well as Indians. It doesn't have grass, just weed, but it was green some because of the rain. We were glad to see that our loved ones had a few flowers on them. By adding our few, they looked nice.

My cousin, Norma Jean Meacham, lives in Grouse Creek with her husband, Kerry. We stopped in and visited with them and their daughter, Clarissa, who was visiting with her folks, for a bit.

I'm planning a Petersen/Hansen Reunion for August and it will be honoring mom and where she grew up, so this trip gave me a better idea of how to do things. I don't think I'd like living in this remote of an area, but tit gave me an appreciation for what my mom',s family had to do to live here and how blessed I am to live where I do.

I got to spend some more time with Danica when she came here to pick up some things she needed here at the house. We made a lunch date out of it and ate at Tandoori Oven, one of our favorite places to eat and visited a bit before she had to head back. It's nice to know that your kids still like to come home for visits, or things, and still like to hang out with you.

Nate took to the road and went to a conference in Las Vegas and while there he clinbed with his buddy Spencer in the Red Rock. They climbed on a route called Inti Watani, but they got rained off half way up. Bummer for them, but hanging out with Spencer was worth it.

He competed in the "Ski to the Sea" race, as part of the Mt. Baker team, that goes from the top of Mt. Baker to the ocean by relay involving Cross-Country skiing, Downhill skiing, funning, road biking, canoeing, cyclocross and sea kayaking. He did the running section which was 8 miles of downhill running. They placed 39th out of 350 teams. His team took 1st in the Veteran's division (the average age of the team was over 50 yrs. with Nate being the youngest. It was the best the team had ever done.

The Mallory's survived the spring soccer season with three of their four kids playing and Amie or Matt coaching or helping to coach all the teams.

They've also been busy going to the kids school programs. Langston's class went to Zootah at Willow Park and saw the animals.

Kennlyn's class helped put on their Utah 4th grade program and she made a float representing Utah County.

Andrew and Lindsay have been working to get their yard ready for sprinklers and then to lay sod. It's a lot of work, but will be so worth it! They're also getting a fence put in so the kids can play in the backyard and not run all over in the neighborhood.

Garrett and Zandra took a little trip to Las Vegas, and had some time alone while Dale and I played Grandpa and Grandma.

They took the kids and joined up with some friends and went to the Golden Spike's 150th  Celebration of the wedding of the rails at Promotory Point in Brigham City, UT.

Garrett and the kids stayed busy by putting in garden boxes in their backyard. Hard work pays off. Zandra and the kids got the garden all planted and has the kids helping her with the care of the garden as well.  Gardening is a family effort indeed.

Jorie had her gymnastics review. We weren't able to go, but Danica played the good aunt and showed support for her. It's nice they live close to each other.

Danica and Jason spent time with family in St. George for a weekend and went to Keyenta to the Art Village. They also got in a few rounds of golf, Jason did anyway. Danica drove the cart or shopped.

They spent time with Jason's family visiting the cemetery and spending time with his family for Memorial Day as well. Family time well spent.

Danica has started up an on-line art and graphic design business called Sunflowers and Design. She posts her artwork to show what she can do. She's keeping busy with it as a side job for now. She hopes to make it be her main job as soon as it takes off more. We wish her the best.

May has lived up to it's name.
